Why would they suck? Asking as I ride a mixture from 172.5mm (old training bike), 170mm (off road) all the way down to 165mm on my TT and road race bikes and I’m 197cm (6’5.5)
Given the price of other one-piece cockpits I could find, the price of the Roval Rapide cockpit doesn’t strike me as too crazy - if you were to build up a new bike (non-Specialized), is there a different one-piece aero cockpit that people would take (maybe one that’s available in 36?) or does this seem to be the best bet?
I realize it’s mostly Specialized fans in here, but also seems like they’re ahead of the curve on these cockpits
I think you are missing the point of a custom program if you are going to dictate what your customers “should” be riding……
Yeah of course, but I was never talking about a custom program.
I said that until the day that they do a custom program, they should streamline their handlebar widths and cranks to shorter and narrower, since it makes most sense to go shorter and narrower on all sizes.
I ran 155 on my TT bike but for me at 6’3” I am able to keep a good hip angle with a 175 crank on my road and gravel bike.
Anyone happen to come across pics or videos the of the green Pro version or the Vivid pink frameset? I saw a video of where they have some shots of the latter. I’m not Instagram savvy so not sure if any are floating around on there. Just curious what each looks like in “real life”
Trinity Cycling? AFAIK they are not sold to the public
This is a dealer, but has some good “real” pics of the green pro:
In Instagram, if you just do a search on “Tarmac SL8 Pink” or “Pro”, there’s lots of pics. Here’s a couple links for examples:

Any pics of the SATIN CARBON/BLACK TINT OVER CHAMELEON BLEND/SUPERNOVA paintjob in the flesh? Preferably as a full build
Dammit that green looks soooooooooo good
Is that S-Works one considered pink? I thought it was white base with red paint over the top. Is there a proper pink paint job?
Also, unrelated. But on the middle link, those white rim Princeton wheels are absolutely stunning. Matched with the all white bike…
Well, according to Spesh, it’s SATIN POWDER INDIGO / AMBER GLOW STRATA / OBSIDIAN
Thanks. I don’t have an instagram account so I think maybe it limits how many results I can see in a search?
The pink one I am curious about is the non-sworks frameset. It’s loud…but I kinda like the 80’s vibes it’s giving off (though I feel like blue lettering would have looked better/more subdued). I imagine it’s probably one of the heavier paint schemes…but think it’s mroe interesting than the satin blue frameset option. I found one youtube video where a bike shop was unboxing the frame. But have not come across any full builds yet.
Just spent the weekend riding the Dura ace Sworks SL8 with roval rapide wheels.
My day bike is a Non S-works SL7, with rapide wheels.
It feels exactly the same, it may be faster, but you can’t tell from riding it.
Stick with the SL7 folks.
the handlebars are nice though, shame about the width.
So dont go with the marketing this time around
yeah. probably not.
Don’t go and buy the SL7 over the SL8 if its similar price, but also, if you have a fully working SL7, upgrade the wheels, save the money, or buy some rapide CLX wheels and some enve bars or something.
Of course you can’t feel the difference of 3-5 W at 45kph or the difference of 1kg (of a system weight of 60 to 90kg). It’s still measurable though
I feel like 90% of the reviews of the SL8 just assume everyone already has a SL7. I wish there was more out there just talking about the bike itself or comparing it to competition like the Propel, Aeroroad, Madone. It’s marginally better than the SL7 but how does it stack up against the Propel, that didn’t seem to get a lot of comparison to the SL7 or the most recent Madone? So tired of the SL8 vs SL7…
The Propel and Aeroad are different bikes than the Tarmacs. A better comparison would be the TCR and the Ultimate (respectively by brand) The Madone is similar in concept to the Tarmac, though…a lightweight race bike with aero design elements.
they’re all such different bikes and one person may love one but hate another, and another vice versa, this could be geometry, different sensations that people like vs don’t like in a bike. Same goes for reviewers.
Until there is an all inclusive, quantitative, industry standard of testing full bike performance, you’re going to have to deal with the bullshit of bike reviewers, influencers, etc.
they are all very good bikes and will likely be much of a muchness.
