Specialized Tarmac SL8 (2023)

I’m curious about the weight difference between the two models. With the SL7 it was around 100g. White is notorious for being heavy so I’m wondering if the Satin Blue Pro model is pretty close to the White S-Works frame weight.

Judging by the photos above, it looks like there’s a small variable depth spacer directly underneath the stem. I’m guessing that’s required in addition to the top cap? So it looks like:

  • the frame is the same as the SL7
  • there’s a required top cap (resulting in the new listed stack and reach)
  • there’s a required variable depth spacer immediately underneath the stem (resulting in the stack and reach “to stem” measurements).

Does that sound correct? The additional 10mm spacer (or not) impacts my frame size choice.

And it is official.

The short stem looks awful.
I have no idea what makes „project black“ at all special.
Probably just the fact that it comes with a cockpit… which for me is the main reason not to get that, because these cockpits are wide and short.
It’s not the lightest frame (satin carbon will be significantly lighter than this gloss one) and it doesn’t look any bit special (the limited Aethos at launch had a very intricate paint job, this just looks like the replacement frames of the SL7)

Edit edit:
And it was deleted again, as this post occurred 24h early. Imma say this was clearly a mistake on purpose, the keep the hype up.

How wide and short are we talking?

Not completely absurd, but you can find it in some of the images for the complete builds. For my size (58) it‘d come with a 420/100, which is absolutely not happening.
380/110 rn, and with the bigger flare, I’d even be temped to try 360…. Which doesn’t even exists. So the 380/115 is the option I’ll be going with, which isn’t available before this November

I’m a 58 as well, and run a 400/120. So yea, not working for me either.

That’s one of the things I like about Factor. You get to pick your seatpost setback and cockpits size. Save a little headache a having to swap things out if you buy a full build or having to build it up from the frame.

They are on the site now, but not clickable. Expensive AF though for the S-Works frameset (+400€, - Stem)

I just ordered a 58 and am trying to track down a 400/120.

The front is U G L Y. From SL7 owner.

What size is that?

Told my LBS when he can get his hands on a 58 SWorks in SD Worx colors and a 38/100 handlebar I take it. Was told not gonna happen before next year…guess it will save me some money for now.
Funny how my image of that bike changed from “I have my SL6 SWorks, I am still fine as it’s mostly for mountain time trials” to “Shut up and take my money”

Looks like a 56! I think they always use 56 for their photos?

Really cool, that Spesh publishes all the Data on every piece of hardware. Quite comprehensive list.
Don’t like that the DI2 Battery goes in the Seat Tube, not the seat post.

Interesting to see the breakdown of weight on things like the thru-axles, look to be in line with the weight of the ones from Carbon-Ti, the bottle cage bolts must also either be titanium or aluminum based on their weight. Kinda like adding the little colourful lightweight bolts but maybe won’t bother just for looks. See the expander plug is like 30g heavier than the Carbon-Ti one, not that I would bother with that but just interesting to see how optimized things already are. Maybe ~40g to save with the Darimo seatpost. About 57g to save if I swapped my non-integrated cockpit for the Specialized new Rapide Cockpit.

For now my plans are ride wrap, Ciro cages, Dura-Ace or Ultegra pedals (need to read more), an out front mount (maybe Alptitude Stelio) and size small SLR Boost saddle instead of the stock 155mm power.

I would eventually like to get back on a 36 cm bar (would try 35 at the tops too like Enve’s 40cm SES Aero), I currently ride a 36cm bar on the road and 38cm on gravel, unsure if I would go for an integrated cockpit like from Roval, Farsports or Enve when making the switch.

You should still have no problem putting in in the seatpost.

Battery in frame makes more sense to me.

So, according to their data, bikes like the Aethos are obsolete. Will be interesting to see the real world ride reports comparing SL7, Aethos and SL8.
