Specialized Tarmac SL8 (2023)

The SL7 doesn’t have as sit-able top tube as the SL8; you’re gonna get jealous when you see how chill someone looks at a stop.

They need to add sit-able to this graph

If only Trek didn’t have such LARGE logos…

From an aesthetics standpoint, I wish Trek would drop the Emonda seat stays a bit

Hah….so many people hate the dropped seat stays on other bikes.

:rofl::rofl:

So this thread could also be called “Fashion is greater than Function “

@dana I thought the same thing. It does look like a future shock on top of the stem area. Would love it if it’s the case. I like the SL7 and was hoping to grab one from someone upgrading to the SL8, but that won’t be happening since no one likes the 8.

I don’t think that fashion is greater than function in general, but since we don’t know any function yet, it’s obvious the fashion is being judged more.
This bike doesn’t exist in a vacuum. There are many great looking and performing bikes, so if a new bike only ticks one of those boxes, it really has to perform extraordinarily well.
And the SL7 looks great and performs great already

I must just have bad eyes, because I really don’t see THAT much difference in the head tube of the 7 and 8 that so many people are thinking “the 7 looks great and the 8 is hideous”. They both look bulbous to me, one just a couple mm more than the other. Now that I think about it, maybe I should have posted this in the “unpopular opinions” thread.

Yeah, I think it went in a worse direction but not enough to justify the polar opposite comments.

Sometimes (most of the time) cyclists just need something to complain about. Whether it’s doping, dropped stays, internal routing, discs, smaller chainrings, aero something or other, electronic shifting, etc etc.

Yep! I hear you.

Don’t even get me started on the Madone. The SL8 looks like an artistic masterpiece to me when compared to the new Madone.

Something changes: “Why they heck did they change it???

Something stays the same: “Why are they so far behind the times???

Lose some, lose some :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I love how that looks. Tells you something about taste

Well, we are paying ever more money for bikes, so I think customers have the right to complain as well.

I feel like the increased price of bikes has a direct correlation to the increase in social media influencer sponsorships. We are basically covering that part of the marketing budget.

Consumers cover ALL of the marketing budget…but overall, I’m pretty sure any social media influencer budget is dwarfed by pro team budgets.

The increase in the price of bikes is partially due to the COVID demands (which is now seeing some corrections) and the fact that we (the consumers) are willing to pay more for our stuff.

saw my first one this week, twice. Chatted with him last night, the Deep Smoke is gorgeous. I was doing endurance on Tuesday, he slowly passed me and we recognized each other from Wed night but I didn’t notice the missing seat post. Last night we were in a big group and started chatting again, pulled up to a traffic light and I finally noticed it. Dude is taller than me and total physical specimen looking like he was carved out of granite. So I asked him about compliance and any worries, because bikes really aren’t made for big guys. He is a little worried about the seat breaking after hitting our famous potholes at speed, LOL, but said “lifetime warranty baby!”

Weight Weenies is the authority for information.

These actually look alright. Still, the front and rear look like two frames frankensteined together.

I still want to see the claimed benefits

My guess:
Single digits (4-6) Watts faster at 45kph due to new cockpit and head tube.
100g lighter (cockpit and rear triangle).

The SL7 was officially advertised as the fastest bike at 6.8kg, so I guess they‘ll claim the same again really (the CLX2 are heavier than the CLX1 were).
