I missed August and September due to a fractured elbow and am just now getting back to riding. I’m hanging my hopes on climate change so I can do my four hour weekend long rides outside so I don’t die of boredom or a sore butt. I’m in NC so it’s entirely possible that afternoon rides will be warm enough all year long.
I just picked up a fat bike today and plan on getting out at least once every two weeks during the winter, assuming it snows like last year in SLC.
It sounds like the local trails are pretty busy even during the winter months so I shouldn’t have issues finding stuff to ride 10-15 minutes from my house.
Plus the Midweek series I race in the summer also hosts a winter fat bike series at one of the kinda-local ski resorts.
”…too dark, cold and wet for cycling outside”
There is no such thing, as many have already replied. The lights help in the dark and suitable clothing in the rain. Everyone have their own definitions for ”cold weather” and ”winter”, but it is definitely possible to ride in freezing temperatures, with lot of snow and ice. Just pick the bike to suit the conditions.
haha…I just sold mine this week. Despite the best intentions when I got it, I just don’t enjoy riding in the cold. I probably ride it less than 10 times since I got it in 2018.

I somewhat get the idea of the certainty of just doing one thing, ie the turbo. I just rely on the outdoors to help with my mood.
Anyway looking forward to it snowing: xc ski season awaits!
I was looking forward to it, but just got a new bike and I’m doing as much outdoor riding as possible.
