Skin suit vs bibs and Jersey

You probably got to their custom page, they have a shot site that you can order from as well.

I just got my first 2 in 1 from Jackroo and it is AMAZING. Probably the most comfortable kit I have ever put on and the chamois felt like it was part of my body. I am also ordering a couple of the Cuore Gold skinsuits through my team as I have heard great reviews for those as well. If I had a choice, outside of winter riding this thing would be my go to for everything outdoor.

Lazarus post. Came here for the “skinsuit” and mtb performance benefit.

Trying to determine if it’s worth it for an average rider (4 w/kg). Dylan Johnson’s rationale for maximizing aero for us mid packers is that we’re on course for longer so the benefits might actually be more than for the fast guys.

My A race for the season is High Cascade 100 up in Bend in July. 3 yrs ago got crushed by the course. Took me 12 grueling hrs to complete. I’ll take any minuscule % I can get. 3% faster would knock off 21 mins.

Anyway, would anyone have any thoughts on these suits?

Nopinz Pro-1 road suit
Castelli San Remo 4.1
Rule28 Neo road

And will check out this Cuore since it’s been mentioned a few times

That ain’t average… :+1:t2:

I used my Castelli San Remo last year for all my gravel races…have no idea how much (or if) time it saved me, but it was supremely comfortable and I was not lacking for storage options on it (two good sized pockets in the back).

I would definitely rock a skinsuit for your events.

I’m the same as you at 4w/kg and race gravel and MTB. I’ve been using skin suites, actually 2-in-1 combos, for the past 4 years. I used Coure for 2 years and in Castelli team kit for the past 2. They are both so comfortable and you won’t be disappointed! I’ve never been able to measure how much faster I am, but I only see upsides all around using them, so it’s a no brainer.

Just ensure whichever skin suite you buy has back pockets. I much prefer 3 smaller back pockets rather than 2 bigger, but both work. I like the 3 pockets so 1 liter bottles fit tightly in the middle pocket.

Side note I recently crashed and damaged my Castelli. I took it to an Alterations store to repair the holes. I also had them turn my 2 big pockets in the 3 medium pockets and it’s great! For $40 it was a steal and I’m considering paying to have all my skin suites converted to 3 pockets.

Do people still race in bibs & jersey? I guess I only know what I do & what I see when watching racing live streams. None of those riders ever race in bibs & jersey.

Weight your skinsuit and weigh your comparable bibs & jersey…I think you’ll find another advantage. And anyhow, a skinsuit is just less hassle. Easier to clean. Easier to store. Easier to use the bathroom. More aero. Weighs less.

But I will say that quite a few gravel riders like to wear those cargo bibs that have extra pockets in the back. So you can store things you reach for often in the cargo pockets…think gels, gummies, clotting agent (just kidding about that last one)…and store things you use infrequently …think tire levers, extra tube, etc… in the bib pockets & store water bottles or stuff arm warmers into the jersey pockets.

Hiw did they do this? Did they sue the existing material and re-stitch it or add new material?

I do miss have cargo pockets when I race gravel….I don’t really use them to store stuff at the start of a ride, but they are great for stuffing wrappers, etc quickly.

But I see plenty of people racing gravel in general in jersey / shorts. In fact, I would say that I am still in the minority when it comes to wearing a SS in gravel races.

Wow, is that a great point. Nothing disappoints me more than seeing gel wrappers laying on a gravel road. Good, good point.

Wonder what those pockets costs in aero Watts when full.

A lot! :slightly_smiling_face:

Two guys in cargo bibs with food/tubes/repair kits/etc. Two guys cover/attack. One guy sits. If you got more guys than that, then wtf, party time!

Nopinz has a ‘Gravel skin suit’ that has cargo pockets on the thighs. I believe Pearl Izumi has one also.

Used the same material, just stitched it. Apparently pretty easy to do and looks as good as the original

Our team kit is also Castelli and I love the San Remo minus the move to two pockets from the older version with 3. I like the idea of altering them to get a middle pocket. May give that a try.
