Killer! I love the dubs and nearly got a 2007 Volkswagen GTI Fahrenheit way back when.
Bravo!
Iāve always wanted to get into a real track car to see if I had what it took.
When youāre behind the wheel, itās all yours!
Yep. Slower the better. Itās got the nice radio which is actually the 1 other thing on the car I care about haha.
Iāve become pretty ambivalent to cars in recent years. If I didnāt already have my Z, I wouldnāt even think about trying to buy one. My daily is a 2013 Elantra that gets me from A to B comfortable enough. In fact, I really wish I didnāt āneedā to own a car for the day-to-day stuff.
Additionally, my work commute is so short, my motorcycle wouldnāt even be halfway to warmed up if I rode it in. Plus, it takes me as long to gear up as would it to just get in my car and drive. So I havenāt taken that out yet this year.
Iāve got the opposite problemā¦my commute is ~50 miles each way and Iām in the office 4 days a week. With high gas prices and free charging at work, EV makes the most sense. Iāve sold all the āfunā stuff (except the Evo) and my wife and I each have an EV. Feels like Iām just driving an appliance now.
Nice!
I bought a ā13 2500 Laramie CTD back in 2020, kept it for a year or so before selling my 29ā trailer, then sold it back to the same dealer for a grand more.
I miss it, but I donāt miss 13mpg, DEF, $5/gal, etc. It had the 6.5ā bed; I very well may have kept it if it had the 8ā bed (my old ā99 Ram CTD was an 8āer).
Iāve also had the privilege of prepping, transporting, and campaigning a few autocross cars that I didnāt own over the years.
2014-2015 ā STX E36 325i
2015 ā STU Evo
2015-2016 ā F-Street E92 M3
2016 ā F-Street E46 M3
2016 Nationals ā F-Prepared Evo (owner offered to sell to me for $20k and I sometimes wish Iād bought it, but didnāt need two project Evos at the time)
Whoās ready for some Rule 25?
I paid $500 for my old commuter, an ā01 Civic coupe with a 5-speed manual and broken AC. I used it when moving to transport my S-Works Tarmac and Procaliber:
It didnāt pass inspection the following year, and I couldnāt be motivated to fix it so I sold it to a junker for more than I paid for it.
Not really. ![]()
Those are fun in their own way, but lack a āmotorā which is the focus of this topic.
Ok⦠Here is the last great car I had:
In this household it had the best sound system, fastest/smoothest transmission off the line, best cornering and braking, and highest gas mileage around 33mpg at 75-80mph on the highways and byways of CA.
Fold the seats down and enough room for a 58cm road bike!
I always got the impression that until you got into the top level, and the better cars at that level, every race car was kinda junky and sloppy under the skin. Just a bunch of things that have been taken apart, crudely modified in some way, with lots of parts that fit together on paper, put back together rather quickly too many timesā¦.and rattling apart - like the software I work with. Itās probably nice just to have a car with all (most) the attention it needs⦠and fresh tires!
Evo + Hoosiers= seeeeerious business.
Maybe this should be an āengine/motorā vehicle appreciation thread.
Nonetheless, Iām enjoying it! Iām also more confused how you people have money and time for such thingsā¦
Yeah, that whole ICE/Elec thing is real and I knew someone would point it out, so you get the ![]()
But do note that I used a complete phrase āMotor Vehicleā in the title vs the shorthand I did on the quoted post, again⦠intentionally and knowingly since the phrase is the accepted term rather than āEngine Vehicleā ![]()
Then I also expected and welcome any E-cars and such that are inevitable here. Hybrids and full EVās are sure to show up, especially since some of them are massive performers (like the Caddy hybrid racer way at the top).
As far as $ &
, being married w/o kids is one in the Win column for me at least.
