Shimano 12 speed chain on 11 speed cassette

Hi,

Just got my hand on a new Epic EVO with Shimano SLX 12 speed (yay). I’m wondering if anybody knows if I can use the new bike on my trainer without changing the cassette and freehub body. The trainer has a 105 11 speed cassette installed.

I use my AXS 12 speed bike on a kickr core with an 11spd 105 cassette

Works just fine but, because I use erg, i only ever use one gear. if you were, for example, zwift racing and therefore changing gears regularly in a workout then I probably wouldn’t recommend it

I’m pretty sure I read in one of the Cyclingtips chain wear articles, that some people find it better to use 12 speed chain on 11 speed drivetrains. Give it a shot, and at worst you have to do something else, but I don’t think you will have to.

Yes, I was thinking of doing TR sessions and using erg mode.
