I’m moving to Boston/Cambridge soon and would love some local running advice. I usually run 3–5 miles on weekdays and longer runs on weekends. Any favorite routes, parks, or river paths you’d recommend? Also curious how crowded things get and what winter running is really like.
The Esplanade around the Charles river is great. There are multiple bridges so you can do loops and get whatever chunk of miles you need. I believe at least the Boston side is cleared in the snow, or at least it used to be when I was living in the city and running a lot. I trained for Boston one year and did exactly 2 runs on the treadmill throughout the winter, so there are places to run (maybe unless it’s a real snowy winter). You do see good amount of people running in the winter since the Boston Marathon is in April. Moakley park in southie all the way to castle island is great as well. Fresh Pond in Cambridge as well. If you want some trail running the Middlesex fells about 15 min outside the city is good. Obv your routes will depend on where you live, but in my 20+ years of living there there were always good places to go.
This is really helpful!! Thanks!
