That actually helps even more… Then I can follow up with, “The guys on the forum said they’re like never discounted, but here’s a code!!!” Guaranteed shoo-in. Now I just have to be patient, but otherwise I’ll be purchasing one before mid-south regardless.
I agree. I have 3 buddies wanting to try it out also. I have unbound 200 and another day where i will be doing 400 miles in a day
Factor shipping into it….mine shipped from the UK on Dec. 2 and arrived Xmas Eve. They said you should plan on 15 business days for shipping to the US, which was about bang-on for when mine arrived.
That is very good to know. I realize that Amazon has spoiled me with shipping expectations. I don’t ‘mind’ long shipping, but it helps to know it up front… Granted, long times in the mail is much different than a company spending 2 weeks getting a product out the door (cancelled my las Le Col order for this).
I’ll also need to look at/factor in the return policy if it doesn’t fit. Looks like they have a 30 day return/exchange policy where you reach out and they send a shipping label and then re-order. Seems simple.
Maybe we could get a group buy going…
@Rule28 - Thoughts?
They have a North American store now. I bought mine in mid November and had it in days.
Yes, a TR promo code. Or does Dylan Johnson have one?
Hah, just checked and DJ does have one. “Dylan” for 10% off.
How is the gravel skinsuit to wear without the bladder in it? Is it fairly snug still, or does the bladder pocket end up being kind of loose?
Still snug. Can be used without it as a standard Skinsuit. The torso panel on the underside of the pocket is the same as a standard road race suit so it isn’t loose.
It will be a little less aero than a standard road race suit due to the extra panel, but if you don’t want to buy a separate road race option it will still do a very good job.
Totally open to this. We do custom kit as well - it’s not a major area for us but its growing.
How many people would we need for a group buy?
IMHO, 2 rear pockets are inferior to 3 pockets and I’d never buy another suit with 2. Never have I needed an XL pocket compared to 3 pockets. With the 2 pockets when you have something small or heavier it works itself to the edges, literally hanging off the side when viewed from the front. This has to be causing an aero drag. Also, it doesn’t allow you to carry an extra bottle like in a center pocket, as with just 2 it works its way hanging off the side.
Your statement has weight.
2 rear pockets are necessary to then place the 2 number pockets we have over the top. This is the most efficient way of providing storage and low drag.
Our aero jerseys don’t come with number pockets so therefore use 3 rear pockets.
I haven’t owned a jersey with two pockets but in thought between two vs three, I like having three as I can always organize items better. I never have a pocket so stuffed that I need it larger, but the separation is good.
That being said, for rides over 2-3 hrs, the middle pocket is always for a third water bottle. If I have the gravel suit, I shouldn’t need a third water bottle when I have the hydration pack. I think I’d still prefer a third pocket for items I may only need when stopped - drink mix, tools, etc.
I compared the Road Race Skin Suit 2.0 with the two rear pockets to a 3-Pocket Gobik. The Rule28 got the nod for me because those pockets were actually easier to use than the Gobik, especially with gloves on. Something about the construction of them at the corners had my hand getting hung up less.
And I packed a hell of a lot of gels back there for pretty much the entire second half of Leadville fine (something like 9-12 of the big 40g gels) so the 2 pocket design wasn’t an issue for me.
With the Rule28, the number pockets are on the outside of the rear pockets, so you could probably stuff something like a jacket, gilet in there too if you’re not using it for numbers.
As a side note, do you think people would like an AMA type post where we try to answer any aero questions, questions about kit, etc that you have?
I would be very interested in a long sleeved speed suit with (small) cargo pockets, @Rule28.
In Norway, the perhaps biggest bike event is the mountain bike race Birkebeinerrittet (Birken | Birkebeinerrittet 84 km); the 84 km course is completed in less than 3 hours by the fastest riders, so any aero advantage is attractive!
All participants need to wear a 3.5 kilo backpack, and often in combination with a jacket if the weather is foul. This effectively means that the back pockets of a jersey or skin suit are hard to access for gels (hydration solutions can be popped into the backpack). My solution has been to use Rapha’s Cargo bibs, but I would much rather have a long sleeved skin suit. Would it be a big thing for you to add that to your collection?
