It was the late 1980s, no Tarmac SL7s back then El Paso. No country for old men ?!
I’m sorry….I’ll be clearer.
I can’t believe someone would post something as blatantly racist as what you posted.
Only the Dreamer “looked suspicious”.
Just wanted to get that quoted before you edit it.
No, I said what you posted was racist….
Carry on.
The language isn’t the offensive thing.
Yes, you got called out, perhaps inadvertently displaying a bias in your original post. it’s okay, take the L and learn from it. We all have biases and when confronted about them it’s good to evaluate why and course-correct if necessary, instead of the natural human reaction to get defensive. If you are able to do that, or at least ponder where you may have mis-stepped in communicating, that’s growth.
I had zero intent on weighing back in on this subject, but I can state 100% that I was not trying to “trigger” you. I called it as I saw it.
Out.
Seems to depend on what state you are in at the time. Texas seems to be getting very fascist over ‘immigrants’, or people that ‘look’ like immigrants. Other ‘red states’ are likely to follow. I feel I have to apologize for states like that. Sorry…
RealID is not a passport, but travelers are asked for 2 forms of ID for air travel, one being the ‘RealID’ and one being a valid passport, and that needed for international travel. There was a US ‘Passport Card’ that was once good for land transit to Canada and Mexico, (and air transport to the Caribbean, believe it or not) but I have heard that it is not being accepted and is not an option to avoid carrying a passport. (If you have a passport card, I’d still take a real passport in case the card is refused.
I think Enhanced licenses are pretty much gone. It wasn’t requested by many people, and the RealID is THE ID now, for good or bad, but it is not a ‘travel document’ like a passport. (A really bizarre article I read a few years ago was about the ‘need’ to make people have ‘state passports’, and have ‘border controls’ for each state. Yeah, like there is a valid and sane reason to turn America into ‘Europe’. In Europe, you can traverse several countries in one day, and using a wide variety of methods, but in America, you can drive all day, in some states, and never cross a border. I hope the idea of state passports and state border control are as popular as making I-75 a toll road from the UP of Michigan to the end in Floriduh. Don’t people have enough other things to talk about than beating the fear drum? State passports? Why?)
Passport cards are 100% accepted and is all the ID you need at land border crossings between US, Mexico, and Canada. Take the book if you want, but the card works just fine and is a bit more convenient. Mine fits in the phone case I use while cycling. No idea about Caribbean ports of entry.
Last year I heard that Canada was not accepting the cards any longer. Years ago they were denied for air travel. Not sure about Mexico, but Canada is closer to me than Mexico at the moment.
Well, and apparently whomever told me that was in error. They do say it’s valid for Canadian and Mexican travel, and even Bermuda and ‘Caribbean countries’. But not valid for international travel, so I assume that the card would work for those Caribbean countries once you were there.
But I still heard from a family whose son was denied entry to Canada through Sarnia. They were trying to cut the corner going through Canada, and had to quick go through Detroit and Ohio. It was during the pandemic, so maybe that was the deciding issue, but their family were shocked, and so were most who heard about it. I have both card and book (it was required for a client we had that had an office in Windsor, although after all that drama, most of us never had to go there. )
So maybe take both, JIC?
So, nevermind…
A RealID Drivers license and an Enhanced drivers license are two different things.
An Enhanced drivers license is a special drivers license with additional identification requirements which is valid in place of passport for car or boat travel to Canada, certain spots in the Caribbean and Mexico. They are not valid for air travel. I could be wrong about this, but I think they are only issued by border states. They’re particularly popular in Michigan where I’m from for example because you just carry your drivers license and be able to spontaneously boat or drive over to Canada Without having to worry about a passport.
Real ID licenses are just a license that has some additional features to reduce fraud. But they Don’t come with any international travel features.
Real ID is actually a federal law. What you can actually get comes from your state.
I just got a new Real ID compliant DL from Washington State and this is what they currently say:
What is the difference between an Enhanced Driver License (EDL) and Enhanced Identification Card (EID)?
An EDL or EID is a form of identification with enhanced security features that shows proof of identity and proof of citizenship. The enhanced features comply with the REAL ID Act. An EDL/EID meets federal requirements under REAL ID and is an approved alternative to a passport or passport card for re-entry into the U.S. at land and sea borders between the United States,
Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean
