Rapha Festive 500 (2019)

I’m signed up again and have completed a couple in the past. I’ve actually set myself the goal of 1000+km from last weekend (15th) to 4th Jan, as I finished work a little early this year. It means slightly less km/day than the Rapha 500 but hopefully I’ll achieve that along the way. I’m lucky that I have many people to ride with so shouldn’t have to do many solo miles with luck.

I have a week away with work overseas immediately after so will hopefully dig a big 2000TSS hole over 2 weeks and then rest a week completely off the bike. Then its back to start SSBLVII.

Good luck everyone - at least the weather in this part of the UK looks mostly dry for the next week

No chore this year for me, fell off on black ice and now have an arm broken in two places! Pressures off!

Darn – I’m sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.

Sorry to hear that

Here’s me feeling sorry for my self because Iv fallen ill and can’t go out and do the rapha!

Bought an evoc bike bag this weekend, packed the bike and traveled yesterday.

It was cold, rainy and windy but I managed 70 soaked kilometers. Merry Christmas!

Started this morning. Another windy, wet, and cold day in the UK and did 100k. I think I put a bit too much climbing in…

I note some lucky bugger in NZ has done the 500 already in one 22 hour ride -_-

Got a steady 72km done today. Makes almost 600km in the last 8 days so will give myself Xmas day off to rest and see what happens next. Forecast looks reasonable so 500km should be achievable I think…

go for it if it sounds like fun!!! extra hours of base won’t hurt at all, and if anything, recharge you mentally to keep smashing the weekly intervals.

Good Luck!

I’m afraid I’ve fallen off the wagon

My little ones came down with colds which, combined with hosting Christmas Day, means I never got on!

Heading out for a night spin once the little ones are down, no way I’ll be making 500 but will be good to get a few rides in ahead of restarting my base season in the new year.

Me too, unfortunately. Came done with a sharp pain in my left patella, out of nowhere.

In favor of my goals And workouts in the next weeks I decided to abandon the festive and recover well for the next workouts. Left a ton of time for socializing which is good too.

I loved getting out in the morning with the crappy weather and before the festivities so I’ll do that again next year

only 194km to go for me!

The weather in the Bay Area held, so I was able to complete this year’s Festive 500 in 5 rides:

This will be the first time I have the opportunity to complete a 500. We’ve had a string of decent weather days in Ohio this year. Only 127km to go! Looks like I’ll get a few of those kms in the rain tomorrow.

Ultimate fail for me. Set off at midnight for 500k and within the first 10k it was obvious I had a problem with my lower back. 100k in and had to stop. Always next year!

Completed it today, thankfully the conditions haven’t been that bad but I am looking forward to getting back on the trainer and staying clean.

42km remaining for me, weather was cold but dry in Seattle this year so I figured I’d give it a shot. Beautiful sunny solo 162km ride today was the perfect way to end 2019. Will cap it off with a soggy gravel ride on the hardtail tomorrow
