Question for Garmin power meter pedal owners

Those of you who have the Garmin power meter pedals, have you done any maintenance on them? I have had them for a year and the right pedal (the “dumb” pedal) has developed 0.5 mm of play near the spindle. I have previously changed the battery on the left one and the battery compartment was quite easy to open. But I can’t open the right battery cover even with considerable counter-clockwise force, though I’m afraid of breaking it. The manual says that the battery cover should be opened to release the pedal from the spindle.

What am I missing? Those of you who have the single sided power meter pedals, can you open the battery cover on the right pedal?

I have Garmin Vector single sided pedals and I’ve never tried to remove the right side cover. Not sure why they say to remove the cover to remove the pedal? The install of Vectors uses a pedal wrench.

Maybe spray some PB Blaster on the cover to soak the threads? BP Blaster needs time to work. Soak it before you go to sleep and try it again in the morning.

Have you contacted Garmin support?

I meant that I want to check if the spindle nut is tightened properly inside the pedal, maybe it’s come loose after a year of riding and that’s what’s causing the play at the spindle. Soaking the threads sounds like a decent idea.

My local Garmin dealer is quite rubbish, in the beginning I had a problem with the pedals and I got new ones from the warranty. I sent them the defective pedals and after a few long weeks they sent me back just one  fortunately they sent the next one using express delivery

But I guess I can try contacting Garmin product support directly

Yikes, it does sound like the local dealer isn’t much help. Yea, give it a long soak and see if that works. Good luck!

Based on the notes about the reverse threading on the right pedal spindle nut, I’m wondering if the cap is actually reverse threaded, also, despite what the instructions seem to show.

I have only used two sided Vector/rally pedals and the battery cap on the right side pedal with all of them has had normal threads, not reversed.

Anyone try the new Garmin Rally 110/210 pedals? Thinking about getting a pair but deciding between the old 200 series (they are on sale for 20% off). Description says they have a rechargeable battery and can swap between MTB and road casings easier. Is this a legit upgrade or take the discount?

Not really a direct answer to your question…. but I have had assiomas for years and rechargable batteries are the way to go so i’d be seriously tempted by the new version :+1:

While im here….. why are you not considering the faveros? Thats my question for all garmin power meter pedal owners :joy:

They’re as good but cheaper

They are definitely getting a look and on the list!

We have a team discount that puts the older Garmin 200 series on par with the faveros price wise and am already in the Garmin Ecosystem. That said the faveros with a rechargeable battery (and I think they are lighter too?) might be the way to go! :+1:

Get the Faveros, pedal body replacements are much cheaper.

I think the new Garmins are probably fine, the Faveros are just cheaper and the wear parts are cheaper.
