I think an intermittent contact in the battery compartment is a minor issue. It’s been years since I cinched the screw in mine down and it hasn’t come loose since. My pm doesn’t seem any worse off for the experience (though keep in mind I have an older model than you). Could some lurking damage have occurred? I suppose, but usually it takes overvoltage to damage electronics, which isn’t likely with a single coin cell.
I would echo @gcarver experience. I had to tighten the battery compartment screw, and everything has been fine (~1 year since I did this) since. So this feels just like any other bolt: given the rattles that a bike goes through, bolts can come loose. You tighten them, all good again, no big deal.
I’ve had the screw work loose on a couple quag pm’s. One was about 8 years old when it happened, the other about 4 years old. Coincidentally, they had the issue within a month or so of each other. Going forward, I just plan to check that screw whenever checking over the bike (big maintenance or prior to “A” races).
Been a week since this and it has been stable. Will tighten it once per year as a normal maintenance thing.
Thanks for all your inputs.
Is there any other way to fix it? I damaged the duracell
battery yesterday.
So… your quarq stopped working? You say you damaged the battery (how???) so just replace it. Or is there something else wrong with the quarq?
quarq stopped working.
Because I used this duracell battery
Is there any way to fix quarq
How do you know a duracell broke your quarq? Have you tried a new battery?
Yes I try to Later battery is not working
Looks like quarq recommends checking it once per year, plus a few other little things:
Assuming you have a quarq as pictured in that support article. You might try removing the leaf spring and giving it a good scrub with isopropyl alcohol (definitely don’t get any liquids into the battery compartment, you want that to stay dry). Reinstall the spring and put the new battery in. Maybe bend the spring leafs a little as suggested in the maintenance article. If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what else to suggest other than to contact quarq/sram. There’s a similar post on slowtwich forum: Quarq Power Meter and Bitter Coated CR 2032: Triathlon Forum: Slowtwitch Forums
I just went through this and unfortunately if you follow the above steps/diagnostics and it doesn’t resolve the issue, SRAM will tell you there is nothing more that can be done. They weren’t even willing to look at mine.
Well I had some problems with my DZero a few years back. Dropouts, connection issues etc. When it started to record 1,400 watts as 5-10 min power, I knew at 70 year old I had a problem. As per others tighten center screw in battery compartment you can also GENTLY bend the five contacts SLIGHTLY up to insure better contact, that solved all the problems. Sadly I deleted the record power…got tired of all the pro offers…
Thanks, since this post, I’ve had a PM dropout on my Quarq and since this thread was relatively fresh in my mind, I tightened that screw, which was definitely loose. I’ll have to remember to tighten my screw yearly, like you.
Me again. I have again the same issue. And again, straight away after washing the bike. Very gentle with water as always.
I tried the same tricks but this time it doesn’t work.
I contacted them. This is massively inconvenient as I do not trust this unit anymore. Waiting to hear what they say.
