Proper TrainerRoad and Zwift integration [Feature Request]

I saw Nate tease somewhere last week that early access might be availble “this week”. Any word on this?

The Intervals.icu method has basically eliminated my impatience for TR to do a full Zwift integration. As long as I don’t try to recreate a TR workout with a ton of small, chaotic steps, it takes just a minute or two to add it in Intervals.

I’ve only got about three weeks worth of experience, but something about the Zwift in-world experience (or maybe just the novelty of looking at something different) is making it easier for me to do my prescribed hard workout intervals that I would have struggled with in TR. I’m a big fan.

I’d still prefer running TR and Zwift in parallel because I’m not a massive fan of the Zwift workout player - but choice is good :+1:

For me, it is more motivating to try and catch / pass riders ahead of me and then close in on the gates as an interval ends than it is to watch the blue bar. Time passes “faster” when I can’t see how much longer a particular interval will last and I can distract myself with other things.

100%

I also really like that (unless it’s a super busy workout) with a quick glance you can see every single step in the Zwift workout overlay, so you know “After this interval, I have an interval that is X minutes long at W watts followed by an interval that is Y minutes long at Z watts, followed by…”

Blockquote For me, it is more motivating to try and catch / pass riders ahead of me and then close in on the gates as an interval ends than it is to watch the blue bar.

Amusingly this works for me even in erg mode. Better in crowded routes where there are enough slower people to catch. (And on flats because I have a large, ahem, denominator in my watts per kilogram.) My self-selected cadence also seems about 5 rpm higher when doing the workout in Zwift.

I have been using this extension on google chrome to export TR workouts to Zwift. It is really good but rounds to the nearest 5 watts.

The automatic link will be awesome.

100%…even in erg mode, I’m trying to chase people down, even though I can’t really pedal any harder.

This is currently a Zwift thing no matter how you get the workout in there. Proper TR integration won’t change this unless Zwift change it.

Thanks. Just realised you can import ZWO files into intervals.icu, makes it easier still.

Just wondering when will TR integrate with Zwift that we can push our TR workouts onto Zwift?

SoonTM

I’m actually the other way. I recreate TR workouts in Zwift because I vastly prefer the Zwift workout player. TrainerDay has the best workout player in my opinion but Zwift’s is pretty close behind in second. The TR workout player is just lacking in some areas.

And for anybody looking for a great workout creator for Zwift, ZWO Factory is super simple and easy to use. Another thing TR could learn from and improve.

what I did to stop gaf:

set up an intervals.icu account, link it to zwift

use the chrome extension to export the train now activity to a .zwo file, which I import into intervals.icu

launch zwift and go

i didnt think i’d like the workout display change, but turns out i prefer it

the actual integration, when it launches in january (did they say 2025? i dont remember… ha ha ha), will be very welcome to skip these steps.

I’m just running TR and Zwift side by side! Luckily I have the hardware setup to do it with no hassle

I’m the same - it’s hard to beat the versitility this option provides.

Direct in Zwift is still a nice option to have but I think I’d probably still stick to side-by-side.

Not everyone has the setup to do side-by-side though.

I like running them side by side, especially since Zwift seems to experience connection issues way way more often than TR. So if Zwift drops out at least I can continue on with the workout. I worry about using an integrated situation and having Zwift drop out, then youre stuck with a half completed workout and lots of frustration.

Thats a great option. Even when the integration is done it will still be an option to use Z only for recording on windowed mode minimized and watching netflix etc. with TR player minimized. Dont see myself following a workout directly and Z sharing the same screen with Netflix at least not on my 24inc screen.
