The Intervals.icu method has basically eliminated my impatience for TR to do a full Zwift integration. As long as I don’t try to recreate a TR workout with a ton of small, chaotic steps, it takes just a minute or two to add it in Intervals.
I’ve only got about three weeks worth of experience, but something about the Zwift in-world experience (or maybe just the novelty of looking at something different) is making it easier for me to do my prescribed hard workout intervals that I would have struggled with in TR. I’m a big fan.
For me, it is more motivating to try and catch / pass riders ahead of me and then close in on the gates as an interval ends than it is to watch the blue bar. Time passes “faster” when I can’t see how much longer a particular interval will last and I can distract myself with other things.
I also really like that (unless it’s a super busy workout) with a quick glance you can see every single step in the Zwift workout overlay, so you know “After this interval, I have an interval that is X minutes long at W watts followed by an interval that is Y minutes long at Z watts, followed by…”

Amusingly this works for me even in erg mode. Better in crowded routes where there are enough slower people to catch. (And on flats because I have a large, ahem, denominator in my watts per kilogram.) My self-selected cadence also seems about 5 rpm higher when doing the workout in Zwift.
I’m actually the other way. I recreate TR workouts in Zwift because I vastly prefer the Zwift workout player. TrainerDay has the best workout player in my opinion but Zwift’s is pretty close behind in second. The TR workout player is just lacking in some areas.
And for anybody looking for a great workout creator for Zwift, ZWO Factory is super simple and easy to use. Another thing TR could learn from and improve.
I like running them side by side, especially since Zwift seems to experience connection issues way way more often than TR. So if Zwift drops out at least I can continue on with the workout. I worry about using an integrated situation and having Zwift drop out, then youre stuck with a half completed workout and lots of frustration.
Thats a great option. Even when the integration is done it will still be an option to use Z only for recording on windowed mode minimized and watching netflix etc. with TR player minimized. Dont see myself following a workout directly and Z sharing the same screen with Netflix at least not on my 24inc screen.
