What the future of cycling looks like….
“Designed and manufactured in Germany, the Flitedeck is the first fully connected and integrated smartbar
His idea is, in his own words, “revolutionize your cycling experience, making cycling more rewarding for everyone, from high-performance athletes to those who simply love cycling,” an interesting initiative that aims to reach all cycling enthusiasts, but that at the moment it will stay in the high performance segment and the cyclists with the highest purchasing power.
Flitedeck is an integrated handlebar/steer and power set that incorporates a touch information and control system. It’s a handlebar that ‘has eaten’ a state-of-the-art bike computer, a pedestrian-detecting radar and even a rear-view camera, whose functions, including bike light control, let you ride without letting go of your hands at any time.”
They’re going to have to change the name or pay Shimano for the use of what I am guessing they still manage. But interesting concept at the very least.
Unless they put in on a cool/“in” design I think it wont get any traction. This one is flaired in the wrong direction. Make it like Pogi’s enve or something like that. Then people might consider it. That’s been my observation of the cycling market.
Do I want to lock in my choice of handlebar with my computer choice? What happens in 3 years when there is an upgraded computer?
Just because you can integrate something, doesn’t mean you should. And relatively short life cycle cycling computers and my component choices are one of those things you shouldn’t.
Yes it would be nice to get rid of the bike meter hanging out front but as said below any crash could be expensive.
I’m far more interested in the adjustable and bike box disassembling, packable handlebars that Canyon has created. Alas, I have a newer Tarmac and no idea if the stem spacers shapes would work with the Canyon aero bar?
So it’s priced at $300 and come in Road, Gravel and Mtn bike flavors. They come without integrated stems. I might buy 3 of them if our favorite reviewer says they actually work.
I don’t see any reason all the info can’t be on the stem and not on the tops, although I get the gimmick. The main benefit is that I’d never lose another cycling computer because that is expensive. Other than that, I have no issue with just having my head unit on my step or out front.
