Are you on firmware 5.0.12?
Yep, on 5.0.12. Trainer is awake and wifi status indicator light is solid white on the KICKR before attempting to connect.
I thought maybe itās a quirk related to one device being on 2.4 vs the other being on 5 GHz but my same devices that find the DIRCON option in TR donāt find it in Zwift. I havenāt tried other apps like RGT yet but may try to see if itās Zwift only.
- Off topic, but I am happy to see that Wahoo actually included a āsleepā function for the trainer. No idea how far back it goes, but my V3 stayed āonā all the time. Good to see generally speaking and I hope it leads to even modest power conservation.
FML. After receiving a Justo with vibration and sending it back, I now got a Kickr v6 that reads 10 watts too high
Sell it for a profit to someone on the Zwift racing scene /jk
What are you comparing it to? Are you sure your other sensor isnāt the inaccurate one? Not that I exclude the possibility of there being an issue with the KICKR, especially given my first V6 was either damaged or defective.
Whatās your baseline for saying itās 10 watts too high? Iāve had 2 Quarq PMs, a 4iii single side PM, 2 Kickr, and Garmin Rally pedals. None of them were the same. One of the Quarqs is very close (1-2%) of my old Kickr. And thatās pretty much in spec of the +/- 1-2% accuracy. The Rallyās have been more like 6-8%. Which one is accurate? I have no idea and donāt really care. I do most interval work on the trainer and so just use the Kickr. Outside rides I do group rides or long endurance so not too focused on exact power.
If you have a power meter on your bike, use PowerMatch and itās a moot issue. Or let AI eventually calibrate to your new Kickr.
Sorry Iām confused. I also ride/love my E-flex. But I donāt see anything that says that the V6 will work with the current E-flex. Am I missing something? Iām on a V3 Kickr and a V1 E-flex. The V1 E-Flex doesnāt work with the V5 Kickr, so Iām assuming that when I upgrade my Kickr Iāll need to get a new E-Flex as well.
But I digress. Where are you seeing that the V6 Kickr will work with the E-Flex?
Where are you seeing that the E-Flex wonāt work the later model Kickrās?
They donāt explicitly list compatibility or limits on the product web page other than the main Kickr vs Core distinction.
They cover the setup steps and specifically the support arm (leaf spring) setting thatās needed for each model right up to the 20 (V5) for sure based on current instructions (linked on their product page). My friend has the V5 in use on an E-F and I just mounted my V6 on my unit with no issues.
Itās the same frame design for all Kickrās. The differences lie in the flywheel weight and Axis or regular center foot. Thatās all possible to address via the arm setting.
Iām doing a bit of review of the instructions related to the new model, and will mention the model clarifying issue for instructions and products page to them too.
Baseline are my Rally 200. They are in line with my Kickr Core and were also with the returned Justo. So thatās 3:1 against the Kickr v6. I also tested it by switching the bike between the Core and the v6, where the v6 always read 8-10 watt higher.
Yeah you are right. Iām assuming that since I donāt see V6/2022 that itās not covered.
From the E-Flex product page:
****KICKR version fit all model years including 2020 (V5)
To me this reads like the V5 is the latest model that is compatible, because the newer one isnāt listed. If I were IR and the V6 was compatible, I would have that as a banner headline on my main page. Thatās just me, though.
Sure, and I will be mentioning that to them.
The E-Flex is compaitible with all Kickr versions, so you are set for an upgrade anytime.
I have a V6 on an E-Flex and it works just fine. Never really crossed my mind that it wouldnāt work since the V6 is the same physical design with some modest electronics and SW updates.
In regards to website, IRās entire website looks like something I would have made in high school. I assume they just hadnāt updated the site yet because clearly web presence is not a huge priority for them.
Interesting. My Rally 200s are the furthest off all my other power meters.
V1 Kickr user here; donāt ride it much using ERG. Iāve tried a friends H3 and not much difference or performance of it to me vs the V1 Kickr other than more limited connections of the H3. That brings me to Kickr V5 or a Core as upgrade options (both would be reconditioned units) or a new V6. Any insight from users of the V1 and/or H3 who are now on the V5 or V6? Thanks.
Posted above that I went from V1 to V6. The only tangible differences are:
- much quieter
- power meter is more accurate (gen 1 could be notoriously bad)
- no more calibration required
- no more data dropouts thanks to WiFi
You can get most of those benefits on a V5 plus the the Ethernet adapter if you want to save a little cash.
Ride feel and erg mode feels about the same to me. I was initially excited about the easy restart erg feature but havenāt had to use it yet thanks to never getting drop outs mid interval anymore.
Thanks for the info and help.
My LBS has the Kickr v5 for $799 (US). Iām coming from a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine, (with a pwr meter on my bike). Just doing TR workouts three times per week.
Is $799 for the Kickr5 a no brainer upgrade or is it better to wait for a V6 sale? Iāve never tried ERG mode or a smart trainer so Iām not really sure what Iām getting into. Also, did the V5 have issues or was that an earlier version?
Thanks
V4 had a lot of issues. I just picked up a V5 for $799 plus a freehub because no SRAM 12-speed option for my V3 from 2017.
The V5 has been flawless, I dual recorded against Quarq PM and virtually the same power readings. Great road feel. Love it in sim mode on Zwift. Enjoyed the V3 on TR.
I bought V5 on a Black Friday sale for $799 and it has been amazing. Itās my first trainer. No complaints. There wasnāt anything in V6 that made the huge price difference worth it.
Went with a v5 on the same sale at my LBS and coming from a Snap I really wish I did it sooner, even without a sale. Do it.
