Sorry I’m confused. I also ride/love my E-flex. But I don’t see anything that says that the V6 will work with the current E-flex. Am I missing something? I’m on a V3 Kickr and a V1 E-flex. The V1 E-Flex doesn’t work with the V5 Kickr, so I’m assuming that when I upgrade my Kickr I’ll need to get a new E-Flex as well.
But I digress. Where are you seeing that the V6 Kickr will work with the E-Flex?
Where are you seeing that the E-Flex won’t work the later model Kickr’s?
They don’t explicitly list compatibility or limits on the product web page other than the main Kickr vs Core distinction.
They cover the setup steps and specifically the support arm (leaf spring) setting that’s needed for each model right up to the 20 (V5) for sure based on current instructions (linked on their product page). My friend has the V5 in use on an E-F and I just mounted my V6 on my unit with no issues.
It’s the same frame design for all Kickr’s. The differences lie in the flywheel weight and Axis or regular center foot. That’s all possible to address via the arm setting.
I’m doing a bit of review of the instructions related to the new model, and will mention the model clarifying issue for instructions and products page to them too.
Baseline are my Rally 200. They are in line with my Kickr Core and were also with the returned Justo. So that’s 3:1 against the Kickr v6. I also tested it by switching the bike between the Core and the v6, where the v6 always read 8-10 watt higher.
Yeah you are right. I’m assuming that since I don’t see V6/2022 that it’s not covered.
From the E-Flex product page:
****KICKR version fit all model years including 2020 (V5)
To me this reads like the V5 is the latest model that is compatible, because the newer one isn’t listed. If I were IR and the V6 was compatible, I would have that as a banner headline on my main page. That’s just me, though.
I have a V6 on an E-Flex and it works just fine. Never really crossed my mind that it wouldn’t work since the V6 is the same physical design with some modest electronics and SW updates.
In regards to website, IR’s entire website looks like something I would have made in high school. I assume they just hadn’t updated the site yet because clearly web presence is not a huge priority for them.
V1 Kickr user here; don’t ride it much using ERG. I’ve tried a friends H3 and not much difference or performance of it to me vs the V1 Kickr other than more limited connections of the H3. That brings me to Kickr V5 or a Core as upgrade options (both would be reconditioned units) or a new V6. Any insight from users of the V1 and/or H3 who are now on the V5 or V6? Thanks.
Posted above that I went from V1 to V6. The only tangible differences are:
much quieter
power meter is more accurate (gen 1 could be notoriously bad)
no more calibration required
no more data dropouts thanks to WiFi
You can get most of those benefits on a V5 plus the the Ethernet adapter if you want to save a little cash.
Ride feel and erg mode feels about the same to me. I was initially excited about the easy restart erg feature but haven’t had to use it yet thanks to never getting drop outs mid interval anymore.
My LBS has the Kickr v5 for $799 (US). I’m coming from a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine, (with a pwr meter on my bike). Just doing TR workouts three times per week.
Is $799 for the Kickr5 a no brainer upgrade or is it better to wait for a V6 sale? I’ve never tried ERG mode or a smart trainer so I’m not really sure what I’m getting into. Also, did the V5 have issues or was that an earlier version?
V4 had a lot of issues. I just picked up a V5 for $799 plus a freehub because no SRAM 12-speed option for my V3 from 2017.
The V5 has been flawless, I dual recorded against Quarq PM and virtually the same power readings. Great road feel. Love it in sim mode on Zwift. Enjoyed the V3 on TR.
I bought V5 on a Black Friday sale for $799 and it has been amazing. It’s my first trainer. No complaints. There wasn’t anything in V6 that made the huge price difference worth it.
I bought the newest one as an early Christmas present to me. The old mag trainer froze up. They sent me a free Wahoo Element watch. Nice bonus. I love the trainer. Really not much work to set it up. Pretty much plug and play. The 11 speed cassette even works with my Di2 12 speed in a middle gear without any noise. I use ERG mode so no need to shift.
And keep in mind that ERG mode is not the only mode available:
Specifically, many people like using Standard mode in TrainerRoad for some or all of their workouts. It’s a progressive resistance power curve that is more like the feel of building speed/power outside. This can be done directly in TR via the trainer mode setting if you are using Bluetooth connection, and I think this also applies to the DirCon wired option if you use that.
It’s a good ideal to experiment a bit with all the options and choose what you like. It may well be a mix of modes based upon workout type or your goals on a given day.
And it looks nice if you just happen to want a nice trainer too. Whatever you buy, all those quoted are so close that it really doesn’t need to matter. Just buy and enjoy. Don’t worry about whether you might have done better or worse. I conducted a pole and 100% of respondents felt that would just be beating myself up needlessly
Rather than create a new thread, thought I’d ask here.
I’ve today bought a Kickr V6 to replace my Kickr '16 as the drop outs are driving me insane, and also I think it has as of this morning, died.
My wifi is currently split so i have a separate 2.4ghz frequency and a 5ghz frequency.
My question is, when i set up the new Kickr tomorrow, I understand it will connect to the 2.4ghz network. My Windows 11 PC is connected via powerline adapters to the router downstairs - will my PC be able to see it connected to the network?
I do also have a tablet i use for TR which is connected to the 5ghz network. DO i need to change that onto the 2.4ghz network for it to see the Kickr?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, i’m showing my age here
