If I am not reading about the new Enve Frog in some sort of online cyclo-paid advert magainze in a few months time, I will be very disappointed ![]()
What I’d do, if I were Enve is offer the Enve Frog in ‘road’ and ‘off-road’ editions. The frame and tire clearance stays at 57 or whatever, but the road has a more road-oriented stem/handbar setup, like the aero in-route with wheels like the SES 4.5 and the off-road as gravel in-route with G SES 4.5.
Then, offer a discount to buy the opposite wheelset at the time of purchase. So I buy the off-road Frog but get $750 off the road wheels.
I’ve clearly spent too much time thinking about this.
And if you get everything some speedplay frogs are included
If you don’t race, not a big deal….but between the weight advantage in the climbs and more importantly: the 6-8w faster aero wise, it’s a no brainer to pick the Crux 5 now.
I also have a MOG.
I think that those aero-gains are way overstated in a practical sense - it would be under a very specific set of circumstances and speeds that are way overshadowed by other factors. And, impacts of weight are frequently overstated too. Short answer is, even in a racing scenario I bet the practical difference is near zero.
But if a placebo makes you feel better, have at it.
On the weight aspect: we are talking about ~160g for 56 sized frames. So in my 24oz water bottles, we are talking about just under a 1/4 of one water bottle (water weight). Not really going to make a difference.
For many of us, the aero and weight difference between the current MOG and Crux 5 means nothing for performance. But selling bikes is a marketing game. The MOG’s going to lose sales to the Crux until it’s updated to be more aero and lighter weight. In a few years, the bike companies will come up with something else to make us want to buy new bikes.
It’s just numbers. I implement changes and run tests. The biggest is obviously positioning, but clothing, helmet, handlebars, wheels and frame, they all add up.
But hey, the more my competitors think like you, the better for me.
This has been the best year of sales for the MOG since it was released. Go figure.
We’re talking about just the frame here - not wheels, not position, nor clothing which definitely matter.
My point is if you think just upgrading the frame is going to make any practical difference, you’re dreaming.
But hey, if my competitors want to chase ghosts, all the better for me ![]()
Well to be fair the Crux 5 just came out, but agree the MOG is still very much worth it in 2026.
It’s currently an excellent bike. If I was Enve, I’d leak a new MOG now to slow down sales for all other aero gravel bikes.
That would likely have more negative impact to current Mog sales vs. curtailing sales of competitor aero bikes. There is a reason very few bike companies intentionally leak new models far in advance of the release. A 2-3 months can make sense, but leaking/announcing a new bike that is 12+ months out is basically asking prospects to look elsewhere. Many people struggle to wait a month or 2 for a new bike once they decide they want one. When they want, they want NOW.
My mog has been one of my favorite bikes ever. It does everything I want, and I’ve had it for years now. I feel zero need to get a new crux.
I think the new MOG is gonna have at LEAST 57mm clearance. Here is why:
they just released the 6.7 which makes a 2.2 balloon to 59mm. Listening to latest bonk bro episode DJ almost can’t even run it in his new Felt frame. So I’d guess they are going to make sure you can at least run a 2.2. My bet is it looks like allied able geo
Just my guess. While those wheels look great and are fast I think they went a tiny bit overboard on width imo.
I agree. I’m assuming the new MOG is coming out soon based on what I’ve read
If it drops the FD and the adventure mounts in favor of aero and weight then it loses where it’s the strongest - a do it all frame. I think very few benefit from the marginal gains of race oriented changes, while many benefit from the current iteration capable of doing very well at everything from racing road or gravel to bike packing.
Except that most of the new aero gravel bikes were/have been leaked some time before their release- BMC, Factor, Ridley, Argon 18.. The Factor & Ridley still have not been “relaesed”.
Plenty of companies have made room for both types of gravel bikes in their offerings. Not sure Enve will have the stomach for that since they clearly want to keep a pretty lean frame lineup but I can see both co-existing like the Diverge and Crux do. They’re as different as the Fray and Melee at least.
I don’t think Enve can afford to have more bikes in the lineup, they keep their bikes for a long time and I think that’s just the economics of it. I wonder if all the new Enve bikes Melee and potentially Mog will come with the new paint lab offers they announced that’s coming soon
