I ordered a Mosaic GT-1 45 a couple months ago and it came in Friday, just in time for my first century ride on Saturday. My prior longest ride was 82 miles.
It was a bit of trial by fire as to whether the fit would be perfect as I’m always tweaking with something on my diverge.
The bike was ordered through a local shop and had an initial fit and custom geometry based on my body measurements on a retul fit setup. When I had the post build fit Friday, it was phenomenal. We made a couple very small tweaks (basically just lowering the seat a hair) but perfect otherwise. I had hip surgery for a labral tear and impingement last year, and will likely need the other fixed eventually. I also completely tore my left hamstring (conjoined tendon) 2 years ago and opted not to fix it based on the evaluation from one of the best hip/hamstring specialists. I have garmin power pedals on my diverge and despite the left side history, my power balance is usually still 49/51 or 50/50.
Saturdays century ride could not have gone better. I often use clip on aero bars and while I got them for the Mosaic, I left them off. The smoothness of the titanium, carbon wheels, and general high end components is a night and day difference from my diverge sport carbon. Although I went from carbon to titanium, the new bike is about 4 lbs lighter. It was a charity ride with some breaks, but for 105 miles my moving time of 5:08 and NP of 198 watts. The ride had 500+ riders and I spent the first half with the front small group and finished up around the 2nd group. This felt great considering I was the only one on a fat tired gravel bike.
While my muscles were fully taxed during and after the ride, all my joints (hips and knees) and contact points felt better than I could have imagined.
The build:
Reserve 40/44 GR wheels with 47mm pathfinder pros (I have clearance that I could run a 2.1 thunder Burt up front)
SRAM Red XPLR 13 spd, 40T chainring w/ Power
Shimano XTR Pedals
Enve SES Aero In Route handlebars (37 cm)
Paint to match Enve stem, seat post, and Silca frame pump
I was hesitant to paint the titanium, but after seeing the paint in person I’m completely thrilled. I started my career as a welder and although I stopped welding for work 12ish years ago, it’s still a huge part of what I do. After welding I became a weld inspector, quality manager, etc., with a lot of inspection certifications and a degree in welding technology. The fascination and nod to welding is what steered me towards a titanium build.
And for the bike porn…
