Need advice, feel lost about my training journey

Awe!!!

A few things that are kinda off topic.

For training to be consistent. Have a good chat with your partner and explain how important it is that you get some definite training time each week, but that you also need to agree about the time your partner gets in return. Maybe you get a few hours spread over the week to ride, you partner gets a few hours to do what they want.

Not exactly prescribed training but my daughter really enjoyed her time in a bike trailer. I had one that I could clamp onto the back of my mountain bike. She had enough room for a friend so we could ride to the park and play ( my partner gets an hour to herself) or sometimes just enough room for several dozen cuddly toys.
Either way, I definitely noticed how much easier it was when I went riding without the trailer! Almost like those sprinters who train with a rope and tyre, or parachute, tied around their waist.

Lots of good advice here and I want to highlight two things: lots of new showing Z2 (endurance, easy pace) is like medicine-you can get fit and stay healthy with only Z2. Maybe you can’t win races, but that’s not the point right now for you. Two, nearly all bikes can be set up as a mullet with a 40 chainring and a 51/52 rear cassette and you can climb almost anything with a gravel bike in those gears (or a 30 chainring on a MTB). I also don’t train indoors-outdoors is my therapy so do what you can and enjoy what you can.

If you’re ever craving a bit of direction, but not a rigid plan, one idea I’ve found helpful is picking a “weekly focus.” Something super simple like:

  • Ride 2x this week, one uphill tempo, one flat endurance.
  • Or just: “Do one effort I’m proud of.”
It gives enough purpose to make you feel forward-moving, but not enough rules to feel boxed in.

I am currently running 2x8 speed with 11-40t set up, it get me almost everywhere. I am climbing a bit more on the same mountain pass each week. I prefer to train outdoors as it is much more enjoyable for me, i love the nature i live around.

Yep i have something similar, when i am certain i follow kind of weekly plan… and do my workouts mostly at tempo. It fits me perfectly kind of endurance + less intensity than sweet spot.
