Yes I think that is more correct than how you were saying it before. The only thing that we are still somewhat undecided on is “…then train just below that”. He might in fact recommend just above it, or as I have speculated “right at it” (with the obvious caveat that we’re not talking ERG mode or anything like that…so as close to the target as you could get on an outdoor ride).
It is also possible that it’s not that important to be that precise. Little over, little under, bit of the in-between. These parts are debatable. And then there is sryke’s question earlier about minimum effective dose. How much and how often do I do this stuff?
We get those “how much” recommendations from trolling DrMF forum. And we sort of get a recommendation from ISM from his Zone 2 TP article.
This podast talks about how the Norwegian teams train a lot at sub threshold (2.5mmol - 3 mmol) and why.
When considering training It’s really confusing when some coaches are saying vo2 intervals are to be avoided, when they seem to be very much the “in” workout. Obviously they are not necessary if the coach of professional cyclists did not use them. Many ways to skin a cat I suppose…
And look at this season: Pello Bilbao has done 56 racedays this season so far… Yeah he is doing two grand tours but that’s a lot of intensity every day.
Ben king’s tweet from last year; look at those hours at z5/z6…
If memory serves me right Tyler spoke about Cecco prescribing him 40/20’s when he was on team CSC. He lacked the high end power because he was trained to be a diesel and needed to be more of a turbo
Why do you think he advises to only diet for two consecutive weeks?
Because the people he trains are already very lean and doing it more than two-three weeks will be detrimental for performance?
