I don’t swear by Vornado except when compared to my Lasko U15617.
Not all Lasko are created equal. I’m with @Chris1982 on that particular Lasko

Yeah I just have the Lasko Pro Performance and Stanley models. A buddy of mine has the carpet drying fans and they work fine. It’s that centrifugal “blower” style that works best, in my opinion. Night and day from axial style box fans, table fans, pedestal fans, etc.
I disagree, some people just sweat more, I’m considered a heavy sweater. I have 4 fans (2 Lasko) and a dehumidifier in a 60 degree room and I’ll have puddles of sweat for a 2 hour trainer ride. I drip sweat for a 1 hour z2 ride even when I’m shivering to begin. 3 of the fans are elevated. I’ve done tests outside in the summer where I was losing 2L of water an hour. For my races, keeping sweat out of my eyes and off my glasses is my biggest problem and I’ve tried every solution.
I’m sorry to hear that and it sounds rough. Obviously, I can’t speak for everyone nor did I intend to, but I have some experience with athletes newer to indoor training who brag about pools of sweat and how hard their workout was, only to find they have an old box fan in front of their front wheel. I would wager that most experienced TR forum users (like you) who’ve been through this discussion a few times probably know all those recommended solutions already. Sorry that you have to deal with that!
Ive seen myself go from the extremes before my Colon Op I hardly sweated but after I sweat like the proverbial pig. Like you I find it horrible when sweat gets on my glasses or even worse in my eyes. If I remember my Castelli Sweat Gutr headband its not too bad but if I forget even the most minor or workouts is horrible!
Hey! Another Tonal user. Very nice.
@MI-XC have you tried the Sweat Gutr? https://amzn.eu/d/gfFKMWR The GUTR - the Next Generation of Sports Headbands Reviewed
Yes. None of those work for continuous sweat over 30 mins.
And protect those cables and connections.
I took to putting everything in repurposed bags from purchased items, and reused (clean) ziploc bags. I pop a hole in one end and feed the cable into the bag, and feed the rest out the open end. Keep sweat tsunamis off the dangerous bits. Sweat would short out anything, including USB connections. Every connection goes in a bag, and I replace them every month or so, and they are really grimy salt coated messes.
I have 8 fans, one ceiling fan, two medium Vornado, two large vornado, one Lesco, and the two built in to the trainer, and still end up leaving a puddle. Can’t wait to turn on the A/C again. The temperature raises 5 or so degrees by the end of a ride.
I had one of the ones with the silicone rib in it, and the sweat just gushed over it occasionally, swamping my glasses and face. Can’t figure out why it didn’t flow off the ends like it’s supposed to, but gave it up. The tidal wave was annoying and somewhat funny…
Gravity. If it’s like the one I tried, the draining aspect only works if the outside/open ends are lower than the middle. In a typical riding position, this is not the case since our head it usually pointed at least a bit downward.
I had those flood moments and quickly ditched my gutter as something that just doesn’t work in a cycling use case. Since we aren’t wearing helmets inside, I guess we could place the front much higher up on our forehead, but not sure that would solve the issue.
I had a large ducted box fan that worked really well. It was also meant to mount on walls. The ducting look was more than for show. The sad part was it’s far too large for my ‘cave’, and the wife commandeered it for in front of her Peloton. But at least it’s getting some use. I had thought of using it for a back side fan but placement would be difficult. (I have a GSD (German Shepherd Dog) that sheds a lot, so floor placement can be problematic. The hairs do fly around quite a bit, and sweat in the eyes is nothing compared to a big dog hair)
I get tidal waves from standard headbands too. When they get saturated, the sweat puddles around the top edge, and looking up, or down, starts it gushing down my face.
At least with more fans, and a change of venue, the swamp isn’t as bad. I have only overflowed the mat once. And sweat can be gross and get on everything. I use an Apple Trackpad and it gets disgusting occasionally. Vented shoes leave interesting lines of sweat on the floor. I’ve been wondering if the vent at the top of the Tacx Smart Bike is a good idea, but so far it seems undaunted. (I’m concerned for the bottom bracket as it’s a custom/proprietary thing over the months of being drenched)
That’s kinda funny. Ha!
That said, we had mice in our garage for a few weeks while storing some stuff. I thought I killed them all.
Something started rattling every time I turned on one of my Lasko fans, and only after about a week of that was I able to see the stiff mouse corpse wedged in the fan.
Surprised I didn’t get the plague from that one. All the more reason to get your fans off the ground!
Gross! But I had a client that had a remote office in their plant, and had a ‘smell’ they couldn’t locate. Eventually the smell went away. Months later, I found the source. The worst part was the occupant of that office commenting that they had to wipe up some spilled thick liquid around the computer for a couple days. Um, WTH!! That ooze didn’t clue someone in? Yeah, those crzy critters will get into everything they can.
Have to say I absolutely love the kickr bike. Even long z2 rides inside while not fun are way more tolerable on this beast
Great looking setup!
What do you like about the Kickr Bike compared to whatever setup you used before it?
Dialed in fit, which is slightly different than my outside setup. The ability to match gradients when climbing and I’m more confident getting out of the saddle for sprints. It’s also way more convenient, the bike is always sitting there, no set up, just throw the leg over and go
I bought a cheaper used bike for my trainer. that way I don’t have to spend time on taking my bike on and of the trainer, it doesn’t matter if some parts get rust or corroded etc. For TrainerRoad you don’t even need working derailleurs, shifters, breaks, or a rear wheel.
I reconfigured the pain cave to its spring/summer set up last week.
Flipped up the treadmill
Moved the TV from the treadmill to the back of the power cage
Switched bike around roadie to TT, lined TT bike up to powercage/TV
Took the roadie out of winter storage and for a ride
Also tried the rear fan set up; rack of drawers behind the trained with a ground fan on it. I’ve got to say it doesn’t really work in a time trial position - you don’t feel it on your back like you do sitting up. Works for now while it’s still <10°C I’ll move it to my face when it warms up.
