Leadville 2020 Thread

Yep, they messed up. Just confirmed on their IG page. The email from Leadville Race Series leadville@emails.lifetime.life is apparently the correct email. As someone else mentioned, there is an issue with the runsignup emails.

Sounds like a mess. I thankfully only got an accept email from that address and my name was on the facebook stream.

Very excited about this, will be my A-event. Will do the Tahoe Trail 100 to get a good starting position and ability to try out my setup. Current FTP of 300 (3.8w/kg), think I’ve got enough time to get it up to above 4w/kg and my goal is to get sub 9 hours

Did all of this lotto madness get sorted out?

Sub 9 quite likely with that power :+1:t3::+1:t3:

Not yet. I received the “unfortunately” email from Leadville saying I wasn’t in and two hours later an email from RunSignup saying Congrats you are in and we are charging your card.
Nothing has happened since. My card is still charged and RunSignup still says I’m in.
Leadville and RunSignup need to get this sorted ASAP.

I hope they get it worked out quickly and you are happy with the result. All things considered of course.

Congrats to everyone that got in on the lottery…I have a few riding buddies that made it in for their first time.

On another note I was speaking to another fella about Leadville (multiple time finisher close to 8hrs). I was surprised to hear that quite a few people would like it ran like the “marathon majors” and do away with the lottery.

He used the Boston Marathon as a example, a small percentage of para entries, small percentage of charity entries, the rest is held for qualifiers. With the qualifying times being bracketed by age and percentage of the fastest in that age group.

It was a interesting view point…

That’s my goal for 2020. I’m a little higher on the power curve but my scale keeps lying to me so hopefully I can get that end of it sorted out by August.

I could get behind that for more entries being tied to qualifiers.

However, I have a friend that does not race and isn’t “fast.” But he puts Pbville on his calendar every year in hopes of a sub 12 finish. Just because he’s not fast, hard to tell him he doesn’t belong. Loves the race, loves the mountains, loves Ken & Co. but would never ever ever qualify in any capacity.

He’s way more passionate about the event than someone like Jonathon who got in, didn’t care for it, didn’t really try and pretty much scoffs at the notion of ever doing it again. I would prefer to be surrounded by the former rather than the latter. It’s an event more than a race for 90+ percent of the field. The lotto does provide a lot of hope for people that just want to be a part of the event, and that’s pretty cool.

Just got an email. Those impacted have an option of racing in 2020 or guaranteed entry to 2021. Leadville stepped up with a solution to make this right.

Not surprising but happy to hear! Congrats on getting in!

Gotta admit, I found the solution very surprising. VERY “customer first” solution that they probably did not have to take.

Good for them!!! (WTC, please tale note! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

All the credit in the world to them. They truly did right by everyone…even when most would have understood if they didn’t.

Oh man, does this mean I am finally doing this race??? Four years trying to get in…pretty excited. And scared. Ha.

Yes you are, congrats!

Such a cool event and I love the people. Best of luck!

Have a great time…never done it but many buddies have and they all rave about it. Congrats on finally getting to do it!!!

I crewed for a close friend three years ago and understood the hype even more than I could have imagined previously.

Now I live 30 minutes from Leadville…so at least I will have some idea what to expect at altitude (I live at 9,000 feet).

I don’t think that would work unless they dramatically reduced the field size or went to significantly staggered start times. With the current format, you have a diverse mix of rider ability that naturally spreads things out early in the day. If the race was based on qualifying, the vast majority would be fairly close in ability and you’d have massive traffic jams.

This is the aspect of the race I really like. It’s cool to have a race with the pros lining up with every day people who aren’t serious cyclists. A “normal” guy finishing in 12 hours is more inspiring to me than a pro finishing in ~6. I enjoy seeing both ends of the spectrum and it just creates a cool vibe with the mix of people.

I don’t think Ken and Merilee would like that philosophy.

Well this is weird. I got selected on Sunday and told I was in. Did not see anything on my credit card. Today I got a run signup email saying I was in, again, and my card was charged. Is this how it went for everyone else?
