I wear Pearl Izumi PRO shorts. The longest I’ve ridden in them is a century. I’ve not had any issues, and I think they are comfortable. But to be honest, I haven’t tried any other brand, so I may not know what I’m missing!
I’ve had wicked chaffing in Pearl Izumi PRO shorts. The edge of the chamois would cut me.
La Passione all the way for me now
Have you looked into Velocio Apparel? They fit, feel and look GREAT. Easy to go to loo too!
Also had great customer experience with them, postage is quick overseas and easy returns, no questions asked. So order couple sizes and see how you go.
Previously wore out a couple pairs of ASOS bibs, personally didnt like them at all, in terms of Chamois placement, but most of my mates loved theirs!
I’ve been looking at those and am very tempted! Even on sale they are so expensive as the Canadian dollar is SO WEAK. Ugh.
Some recommendations please…
Im in the process of buying cycling shorts for my better half, she has one stipulation that they must be short in length rather than just above the knee (like mine) and im struggling to find anything that suits that category.
She currently has some Tri shorts that seem to fit the bill, but obviously there is less of a pad than traditional cycling shorts so looking to see what other options there are.
Thanks
Pearl Izumi have cycling shorts with shorter inseams: Women's Sugar 5" Short – PEARL iZUMi
I’m sure other brands do too, this is just the only one I have direct experience of.
Just from my casual browsing I’ve noticed that almost all brand’s womens shorts will be a bit shorter than their mens shorts. So if you have some shorts that are a bit long that doesn’t necessarily mean that their womens shorts will be too long for her.
Here’s some from Pactimo:
My wife loves the TwinSix cycling shorts.
@Hoppy, I moved your post into a thread with some existing recommendations. See them above and any new ones people add. ![]()
I’m 5’2" and prefer a shorter bib as well. I really like Specialized SL Shorty Shorts which have a 7" inseam I believe…and they have a magnetic bib closure in the back for quick bathroom breaks, love them. The 7Mesh MK2’s are really nice as well, but sizes are limited now as they’ve been replaced with the MK3’s which are longer.
I’m in love with the women’s voler black label bibs. Biggest draw is that they have an amazing return policy if the bibs don’t work for you!
My favorite shorts are Louis Garneau Equipe shorts. They have a gel chamois, which provides awesome cushioning, and the chamois has a smooth finish, so it doesn’t chafe. I just wear regular cycling shorts (not bibs), but the Equipe shorts have a very snug fit, so they stay in place really well.
I am a big fan of the Giro chrono expert bibs!
Voler and eliel are good lower price options as well.
I tried Eliel, Passione, Velocio, and Voler. I am extremely happy with Voler. I think the quality and fit is better than the others I purchased. I had a pair of Eliel shorts that needed to be repaired because the chamois wasn’t sewn in all the way (I had to pay shipping but repair was free) and Velocio had a double seam on the chamois that was located exactly where the shorts met the saddle. They sent me a replacement pair for free so that was nice but that pair had a similar problem as well, just in a different spot so it wasn’t as noticeable. QA should have been better. Passione seems to have stretched out and just don’t fit as tight anymore. Voler are two thumbs up so far!!
