Is the Vegan cyclist a National Champion?

You also can’t compare 2 different courses on 2 different days.

Did the UK National Champion compete in the World Championship?

No? Then congrats on his National Championship.

On a completely different course with completely different conditions so definitely very comparable

I don’t know what the conditions were like at the UK TT Nats, but at Worlds we got great weather for 5-6 hours, then the wind cranked up, 30mph winds with 40-50mph gusts. literally the sketchiest riding I’ve ever done. Direction was out of the west, which would make the course extremely slow.

You know, reading several of the responses in this thread makes me think some of y’all need a hug, and need to bring it down a notch.

Yeah that does not sound fun to race in at all.

Kudos for racing in that and great job getting the w.

To be completely honest, I was the only one in the 30-39 AG. Although claiming 3rd overall makes me feel a bit more legit.

Your result is legit. I know that this is not the only race that you compete in during the year, and that you also have legit performances in your other events. You do the work, make the sacrifices and show up. You worked for and deserve that title. Good on you.

The National 12 hour was on the edge of the Fens in the east of England which is very exposed and notoriously windy!

We were on open roads though, and even with light traffic it’s hard to compare versus a closed road.

In the past the National 12 has involved long spells on dual carriageway circuits - that’s where Joe Skipper set the competition record (325 miles!).

It’s a great event though, real community feel with all the support crews out on the course - maybe the world champion should visit in 2025

Since the most recent vegan cyclist thread was locked, I figured I would post up here.

I met VC at the rattlesnake gravel grind yesterday. After the race he spent a good 15-20 minutes talking with me about general cycling info and a lot about diet, longevity, weightlifting, etc. We talked about his impossible routes, and his recent ride from Canada to Mexico.

I’ve been a big fan of his content and his openness//struggles he has as an individual, which have always seemed really genuine.

Definitely a good dude and he’s inspired countless people to get more into cycling. Regardless about someone’s concerns about his national champ claim (which I’ve seen him laugh off and downplay in podcasts and such) he has had an overall very positive impact for the cycling community.

No doubt, I’m 100% with you.

I was around him Thursday and Friday leading into Rattlesnake. Definitely was way more impressed in person than the YouTube personality he portrays. He is genuine good human is how I would describe him.
