I am using Trainerroad for Triathlon training and have 2 running races in the lead up to my first half distance triathlon. Is there anyway of adding these in to the plan? I had them on my calendar before as A/B races but I can’t see a way of doing this in the plan builder.
There’s been talk of this option among us triathletes on the forum but nothing on the TR end yet. They are locking in all things cycling first before expanding out to other disciplines.
I experienced a bug when changing volume to test stuff.
I had changed a few weeks of the plans, rearranging workouts within the week. When I changed a MV plan to LV, it added in extra workouts but kept the ones that were rearranged. When I changed the volume back to MV, again it added extra workouts on top.
I tried it on a lark (before reading your post), and I was happy to see that it did what I expected it would do. So thanks for anticipating that. You should add a mention of that in the blog post.
Hi, can’t get plan builder to complete the journey. It will not load the plan and I keep getting the error “There was an error building your plan: A server error occurred. Please try again”. I’m using Chrome, trying to load an A race (Half distance Tri). I’ve tried several combinations of volume and experience and including or excluding my A race but it simply won’t load a plan. Any ideas on how to get it to work?
I don’t know if this is a glitch or am doing something wrong. I did a ramp test this morning as part of my first step in my new plan and with the weather being so beautiful 27C at 5am I decided to do an outside ride. On completing my ride I tried to upload the ride through Strava but would not upload also tried drag n drop no success. What am I doing wrong?
Bryce,
I did not add the Plan Builder to my calendar so I don’t have the screen shots.
I decided to add a Build plan and modify it manually (add workouts, blackouts etc.) manually.
I like the builder and I will try it again and see if it misses the taper week.
Not entirely related but my resulting manual plan is show in the image for reference.
(It does not show my outdoor fatback rides as they wil get reverse added from Leyzne GPSRoot.)
This is what I call a “weekend warrior” plan.
Any workouts you manually move or change become dissociated from the plan. Then when you re-apply the plan builder, it just ignores them and adds the default events on top.
Did I miss something or can we no longer add repeating race events to the calendar? Want to add my upcoming crit series for the year so I can plan training around them.
Agreed! I only now started looking at it. I’ve already started my progression. It was a comfort to see that the suggested plan was very close to what I had set out for myself.
I do miss a form of road events: brevet
Gran Fondo is the closest, I suppose and seems to work fine. But after a 400 km brevet, a bit of thoughtful recovery is definitely needed (it takes me about 20 hours to do a 400. We tend to place them along very, very hilly routes).
But it would be easy enough to see how a recovery week looks after an A event and fudge the work outs after a 400.
A super randonneur series seems to fit in well. The series is: 200, 300, 400 and 600 (and 1000, if you want to do the whole series, but it isn’t required). So 200 - 400 I set a “B” events and let the 600 be the A event.
In reality, some of us use the SR series as our “B” series in preparation for a season highlight, a 1200 km brevet somewhere nice, “Colorado High Country” (July) or “Iron porcupine” (August).
Before I add a plan to my calendar, I want to play around with the while sheebang and see where I land.
Really, really nice. But it also shows how much thought has gone into the standard plans and how so much good advice we got along the way before this plan builder has resulted in very good plans the way it is.
Really nice to think hard about A and B events and get help fitting them all in, instead of just entering the events into our calenders and just letting the dice roll.
I have two workarounds for the time being, one mentioned by @bloya89.
Manually enter the desired date with your keyboard
Reduce the zoom/magnification of your browser window by holding “Ctrl” on Windows or “command” on Mac and then hitting “-”. You can increase the zoom/magnification afterwards by holding “Ctrl” on Windows or “command” on Mac and then hitting “+”.
This shouldn’t have anything specifically to do with Plan Builder.
We do have logic in place that will “block” a ride from uploading to TrainerRoad if it overlaps with the timestamp of another existing ride - were you recording both the Ramp Test and the outside ride on your head unit, or was the outside ride started immediately after finishing your Ramp Test? Both of those scenarios could trigger the “blocking” behavior that I mentioned.
I’d reach out to support@trainerroad.com about this one and they should be able to help you out.
