How often do you stop riding during indoor workout?

I only stop to avoid explosive diarrhea on the bike. I don’t even stop pedaling to vomit during Zwift races.

If you’re dropping stuff use tape, or tie it so it can’t falll out of reach, if you run out of water, get another bottle (they aren’t expensive) or just use a gallon jug and refill main bottle during recovery intervals.

If I ever stop it’s during the rest period of above threshold intervals. I never stop during an interval

He also forgot that he stops riding to torture muggles

On longer endurance stuff (2-4 hours) I will stop every hour on the hour for 60 seconds to pee and mentally reset. If I can’t mentally break down a 4 hours trainer ride into hour chunks I’m probably not gonna do it at all. On anything shorter or harder I never stop.

I solved my fan problem with a smart plug. It allows me to turn it on with a simple voice command. Before that I used a cheap IR remote plug for Christmas lights that allowed me to turn it on without pausing. Sorry, can’t help with the laundry.

My experience has been that 1 or 2 short stops don’t trigger a struggle survey.

Even when they do, you have the option to select “I did not struggle” and then get the regular survey? Perhaps @IvyAudrain or someone else can confirm on the struggle survey? Certainly was the case the last one I got a few weeks back! In which case there is no question for AT to answer - if you didn’t struggle you select that and AT gives you the progression.

And to make sure Nagini isn’t trying to eat the neighbor’s dog again

During my chemo I needed to switch off the fan until about halfway through the workout. Prior to the chemo it was just a case of braving it for a minute or two during warm up. With the drugs tricking my nerves into thinking they were getting crushed by the cold air that wasn’t an option for 30minutes or so. As a result I upgraded my fan to a remote control one and shifted my old one to my parents garage. I occasionally train in there and fortunately its a case again of braving it for a minute or two. In cold snaps though I have warmed up in a loose base layer/ cycling shirt before discarding it 5mins later without stopping.

@macy You are correct! The placement and duration of your pauses in workout can impact whether or not you get that struggle survey, in which case, it’s great to answer that you didn’t struggle if you were pausing for any reason other than to cope with intensity.
Based upon that feedback, Adaptive Training will respond accordingly and move to the difficulty survey next to gather more info about how that workout felt!

Do you have any further/more specific questions about taking pauses in workouts and Adaptive Training? Let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

If I were TR, I’d run a parallel ride file that included zero watt intervals where you were stopped. Then I’d run that file through the PL algorithm and see how much it differs from the prescribed workout to determine if you “passed.” I think they do something like this.

Yeah, no kidding! I just turn my fans on max before I get on. The first few minutes are cool, but after that it’s all good.

Frequently lately. Though that’s due to media issues with watching biathlon; I haven’t found a way to watch it on my roku and have resorted to using my computer. May put in a little shelf to put a mouse on so that I don’t have to get off the bike to fidget with what race to watch next.

Mini Bluetooth Keyboard….I can control my computer and type as necessary from 5 feet away.

I put a quarter-turn mount on the back of it and just put it on my computer mount in front of my HB.

Hm, that’s neat, thank you. Lately I’ve gotten a lot better at riding hands free on my rollers; that’d be something it’s actually useful for instead of doing it because I (usually) can.

I used to have to jump off to switch on a fan, or adjust it.

I bought some remote control plugs, so I can now switch them on, and off, without having to stop.

Certainly helps me in those situations where I’m too cold at the start but I need some ventilation twenty minutes in. And also it’s nice to be able to switch them off during recovery if I’m still on the chilly side.

Just wondering.

Not during the actual ride. But aren’t we meant to perform a spin down to check that power is being measured correctly? Like after the first warmup, not the first interval.

So do this count as a pause? Does a pause during the warmup affect how AT sees the ride?

No and no.

Trainer spin down really only needs to occur once a month at most or if you move your trainer around a lot between rides.

Support have told me before a spin down doesn’t count as a pause

I do it every workout, as the temperature in my shed/ pain cave can flutuate quite a lot day to day (inline with our outside temp!)

I ride for 5 mins then stop for a few seconds to turn on my fans. But that’s bc I ride in the freezing garage so I do no fan to warm up. I’ll stop if I absolutely have to take a pee too, but that’s not every ride. I might stop for a minute in the hour ride so it’s nbd
