Thanks all for the replies. It has beeen really helpful. I’ll go with the FTP is too high set and try to do a few weeks with focus on Vo2max to see how that goes then ![]()
Yeah I think FTP too high unfortunately…
But that isn’t your fault, I think TR should be investigating cases like yours.
Thanks, well I think I’ll start by not accepting more updates to FTP before threshold PL is at 5 or something. And maybe so make some Manuel ramp and 20 min ftp tests just to see how those compare ![]()
I might even go as far as saying that TR should implement a feature whereby if an athlete fails a threshold workout with a progression level below 4 then adaptive training suggests an FTP reduction.
Let the athlete override it by all means - but I can’t think of a reason why an athlete should fail a sub 4 threshold workout unless their FTP is too high or they’re on a really off day.
Go do a long form FTP test. Not only is it a solid workout you will also get a better understanding of what riding at FTP should feel like. Continuing to train with an inaccurate FTP is probably not the best idea.
I agree that this is a good idea if the athlete rates the workout as too intense. But do you think TR should do the same if the athlete constantly rates the failed workouts as failed due to stress/motivation, effectively telling TR that they believe they are able to do the workout, but they just didn’t have it in them that day?
Yes I think TR should still suggest an FTP decrease in that situation - the user can ignore it at their peril ![]()
To follow up on this I did Kennedy -1 OU today which is a 3.2 OU threshold with 3m Unders/1m Over x 2 intervals. Origionally I was suggested a 4.”something” OU threshold eventhough I miserably failed the last OU at level 3.3 as I wrote about before. .
Same case here. HR kept climbing but since it was “only” intervals with 2 “Overs” I made it through. HR went up at 178bpm again just as the other OU threshold workout where I popped. So yes. I agree with what most of you wrote. My FTP is detected too high and i’m doing “Over/Over” intervals ![]()
Anyways since I lowered intensity 3% in the last section I marked this workout as “All out” with reason “Intensity”. Not sure if it should just have been “very hard”. Anyways PL still went up from 0.8 in Threshold… Thank god there is no more OU workouts before my race now. Afterwards I hope AI have detected a lower FTP and I’ll do those manual ftp tests.
