Curious to hear what people’s tire choices were and how they felt about them? I had a dubnital rear and trinotal front and felt it was ok for me. I did about lose the front a few times in the Sandy turns but that may have just been my handling. If there’s a better option for the front for those turns I may consider it for Ring of Fire
I was planning to run a Barzo race xc up front and a Mezcal race xc in the rear but my Mezcal took a sidewall cut while riding two weeks prior, so I ordered a Dubnital rapid trail, which worked well. The Barzo did cut loose in several deep sandy corners but I’m not sure any reasonably comparable tire would have done much better. I would race the same combo again without hesitation.
Barzo/Mezcal in the Race 2.4 casing. No issues whatsoever with the tires although I suspect that I’d have been just as happy with my Rocket Ron/Racing Ralph 2.35 combo. Switched a week before just to have fresh tires and eke out a little more volume for the sand. Also a Bend local so knowing the trails well helped me pull back about three minutes to a group on the larsens-tylers-catch and release trail combo. Then gave a solid chunk of that back up on the road since I had almost no power left at that point. Structured training is the big way for me to improve my time at HC100 going forward. That and maybe a more efficient, lighter bike setup but I’m under no illusion that the engine is the bigger contributor to future success.
