Here's an unfortunate scenario with Bike computer battery and TR AI plans

Some one here has likely run into this issues before, but I’ve not seen a topic on it yet. On today’s workout ride my head unit died 15 minutes before the end, and unfortunately the entire workout is gone. With how Trainerroad plans adapt to the data or lack there of, I assume it’ll affect FTP prediction and future planned workout. Has any of you run into this conundrum ? If so, how did you remedy it?

I charge my battery when it needs it. I mark things completed and hope the ai believes me.

I’d just mark it as complete, as @KevinKlaes suggested.

We won’t have the same data as if we got the ride file, but it’s probably the best option in this situation. :+1:

Ah thanks for the tip. Is there a way to do this for a session in the past? The planned workout in discussion was for yesterday, and unfortunately I only saw this now. Currently the session is marked as “skipped” and I don’t have an option to undo that.

I guess this leads me to another question. Currently my FTP is 290 and my predicted FTP in (3 days) was going to be 299, but because of the “missed” session it has dropped to 280. In the past the detected FTP has always matched the prediction. So potentially the algorithm will be assigning workouts that are slightly too easy going forward. Is there something I can do to mitigate this situation? I have been taking screen shots of the assigned workouts in case I hit the outside workout bug, and the algorithm starts assigning me sessions that are too easy. I could just reference those screenshots, manually select each session, and treat it as a static plan. I don’t know if this is the best way to go, but I would prefer a more wholistic solution if possible.

Is there a way to do this for a session in the past?

No, I don’t think so.

Moving forward, I’d just keep knocking out your workout as well as you can and try not to focus on your prediction.

If any of your workouts feel easier than they should, feel free to increase the intensity. We’ll see the work that you actually did and take it into consideration.

Also, if you’re confident that an upcoming workout is going to be too easy, you could look at Workout Alternates right before starting to see if there’s something in there that better represents what you think you’re capable of.

Just don’t go any harder than you should, and don’t try to prove anything to the model.

Things will all work out in the end. :person_in_lotus_position:

Or add the same previously prescribed workout in today and mark it completed. Not ideal but I move it represcribe myself workouts sometimes if I missed one (:beer_mug:) to do it the next day and usually doing the same workout “rights the ship” but I am on an LV plan

Thanks for the tip @joguar That sort of worked; at least it’s looking like the numbers are going in the right direction.

@eddie I know there’s a lot of talk about the FTP prediction numbers on the forum; I also know that, the FTP value isn’t how the workouts are assigned. But because we can’t peek inside the black box, the only indication of whether or not our performance is on track, or the algorithm is on track ends up being that number. I’m not generally fussed about the FTP prediction, however, I’m currently in the specialty phase with an event in a month, so I’d rather have the workout assignments be dialed, and don’t really want to spend multiple sessions trying to correct the algorithm this late in the game.

All that being said, I’m generally very partial to the mind set of not getting too caught up the FTP number.

I don’t think the absence of ride data for that one workout is going to completely derail your training.

How are your workouts feeling? That’s the biggest signal that helps confirm if you’re on the right track.

If your workouts are appropriately hard for the goals, then stay focused and keep going.

If, for some reason, your hard workouts are way too hard or not hard enough, then I can take a look to see what’s going on.

Do you have any current concerns about your progress toward your event?
