Ahh, I’ll take the blame on those lackluster release notes! Glad they got at least one laugh
Our normal release notes wiz was out for the last two cycles, so I wrote them. I kept those notes particularly bland because most of the work going in was related to Adaptive Training. Since that’s in beta, I didn’t want to bug any athletes not using AT with notes that weren’t pertinent to them.
Because those release notes were pretty dry, I got clearance from our marketing team for the subsequent release to have some more robust notes including AT updates.
It sounds like most of you appreciate the more detailed notes, and I’ll keep that in mind if I do them again! That being said, our release notes guy is back and we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming.
i dont find it funny at all. google/apple should force companies to issue specific update notes. we have a right to know what changed. if it’s underlying code that has no impact whatsoever on the user experience, then say so.
@ming all I can say is this thread got a lot more interest than I ever thought it would. I just thought the notes were good for a chuckle. I’m not the correct person to chastise release note brevity, for sure.
As a developer I can say that writing release notes SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS
What you want me to write?
Optimized obscure subroutine to make the page load faster?
There are many changes that are done on software that means absolutely nothing to people who are not the people doing the software.
All the changes as described, means something to me.
They were changes on the backend, and maybe some minor changes on the front end that didnt break anything.
If there was something major to write, I am sure someone would have written it.
I’m okay with bland “improvements “ for non-customer reported problems. But if your customers have reported problems, and they are fixed in a specific release, say that.
The customer knows there problem has been addressed, and more importantly they will check if there problem has really been fixed or not.
For example: I’m still having problems where post- workout surveys are not being saved correctly in the TR Mac app. Should I keep reporting this? Does TR think they’ve fixed it? I have no clue. But the fact this is still a problem is freaking annoying
My phone is showing ‘No information’ for every updated app, so it looks like it’s not just a TR issue - unless everybody has stopped doing release notes at the same time
Hmm, that’s odd. I can confirm that we did include release notes in-app and within the pertinent app stores (Apple App Store and Google Play Store).
After doing some Google sleuthing, it does look like there are a few reports of this happening for all apps in the Google Play Store. I hate to place blame elsewhere, but it does seem like this one is out of our control for right now. Hopefully, they’ll get that fixed soon.
Also, I just wanted to mention that we include release notes in the apps for athletes using auto-update. This way they still see the notes even if they bypass the App Stores completely.
