Gravel race (turbo) warm-up

Hi. Does TR recommend a specific warm up to do on the turbo before a gravel race?

Hey @urban_spaceman

TR doesn’t recommend a specific warm up to do on a gravel race since gravel races can vary. We do however recommend Cajon the day prior for openers as I see you have on your Calendar.

Note: I noticed a display bug on your account with Cajon that it marks it’s a 3 hour workouts, but once you open it, it’s 30 minutes.

Depending on how you’re going to approach the race, you can prioritize intervals or a longer warm up. If you are going to start hard at the beginning, then completing Cajon again could be a great option, but if your planning on starting a bit more easy then Clyde could be a good fit.

I used to do something similar to this by feel to see where my body was at and how much of an opener I needed:

-Easy spin of 10 minutes to get the legs going.
-Progressive efforts of 5 minutes ramping from low Z2 to mid Z3.
-A few 1-minute Openers at ~110–120% FTP with 2 minutes easy spinning between for those initial race efforts.
-Finish with 5–10 minutes cool down

I would also try and time the warm up close to the start of the race.

This is brilliant. Thanks so much Caro

Related to this response: I have Pahrah on the calendar for the day before my gravel event, which is very different from Cajon. Any insights as to the ‘discrepancy’ between my gravel plan and thst of @urban_spaceman?

I understand the we are probably at different PLs, which may have some affect on our prescribed workouts, but it seems like there must be some other factors involved. Length of event? Planned effort level? Other?

Just curious.
