Interesting. Going after the Salsa Cutthroat
Just FYI - the Cutthroat is a really fun bike, but it’s super beefy. If you’re going bike packing or on mtb trails, I think it would be great, but if you’re looking for something light and fast, and want a Salsa, consider the Warbird.
Hmmm…I don’t see that. It seems like these are very much in line with the last version of the Revolt (versatile bikes that can are at home on road or trails), just with added suspension. Admitedly that moves them into more of a dedicated on-dirt bike, but I wouldn’t put it in the Cutthroat category. I see that as a burlier, off-road adventure bike.
I did find it interesting that Giant significantly increased the BB height for these when they added the suspension (+15mm).
Yes, very interesting. This change puts the BB drop consistent with most other gravel bikes in this genre, with or without suspension. The BB drop on the 2022 Revolt was some of the largest I’ve seen.
Perfect, thank you!
I understand why they did it (as a bike goes through its travel, the pedals will get lower to the ground), but +15mm seems like a LOT when the travel is only 20mm, max.
But I also suck at math, so I’ll trust the guys with the engineering degrees. ![]()
Did the frame design change?
Maybe they just added a suspension fork, but the fork has a much longer axle-crown length, so the frame didn’t change, but the headtube and everything up front got pushed up from the longer fork.
Happens in mountain bikes a lot - it’s called “over-forking” and can help With some ways of getting to a modern geometry (not all the ways, but it can be a useful stopgap).
I’m sure it did to some degree beyond the BB drop…but I haven’t dug into the exact geos and compared. Honestly, I’m not likely to either as I don’t have an interest in the suspended bikes…but the new geos are posted in the article for anyone who wants to dig into the details.
I sent in that leak tip ![]()
