Frames that can accept a 55-622c (29x2.2) tire and 42 or bigger chainring?

What frames currently exist that meet these two constraints? So far I have the Seigla. Not interested in 650b, trimming tires, or rubbing paint and carbon layers off the inside of forks and chainstays.

Based on the Seigla comment, presumably this is “gravel” bike focused?
Probably worth clarifying in the title and body text.

Any frame.

Also probably need to clarify if you are looking for frames that “officially” fit 2.2 tires, or if you are OK with frames where they simply fit.

For example, the Felt Breed will accommodate 2.2’s, but is only officially rated for 2.0 / 50mm tires.

Similar story for the Santa Cruz Stigmata…officially rated for 50’s, but 2.2’s will fit.

The new Ridley Astr RS frames are officially rated to 52mm, I think.

Sorry thought I made that clear with the no rubbing or trimming comment. Non-officially fitting is fine, but definitely want reasonable clearance and not like what you see with a race king 2.2 on a MOG for example.

You can go up to 46T on this :exploding_head:

You can fit larger than officially-rated tires in any bike without trimming or rubbing…for example, my old Aspero was officially rated to 42mm, but I used 45’s on it several times with no trimming or frame rub.

Anyway, given that you are just looking for a fit, the 3 frames I listed above will work for your needs.

If you don’t like how they fit on an Enve Mog, which is rated for 50mm, then you probably wouldn’t like how they fit on any other 50mm rated bike.

If I had no constraints on wait time, I’d get the Baum DBM hands down. I also wanted titanium but went with a mosaic gt-1 45 which is rated at 45 in the rear and enve gravel fork is rated at 50. I plan to primarily run 47mm pathfinders.

Built for 2.25-2.4 mtb tires, max 44T chainring: DBM - Baum Cycles

I saw it at the Portland MADE show in August. Great bike. It was sooooo light.

Stigmata is too close. At least one person on the FB owners group has shown rub and damage on the rear right chainstay with race king 2.2s.

Trek Supercaliber with drop bar handlebars and flight attendant is what you seek.

Max chainring 38t according to Trek’s website- have you fit a 42t?

No, but you can fit a 38t x 9t which offers the same (or a little more) speed then a 42t x 10t.

You can also get creative with a longer raceface spindle and spacers on the shaft to clear the chainstay if you want to run a 42T (although chainline will be wonky)

Looks like the Rodeo Trail Donkey 4 meets your requirements.

No UDH on the TrailDonkey FWIW. There’s a whole speculation thread on this, but the recent EC interview with Gerard Vroomen strongly suggested Shimano with come out with a UDH-compatible direct mount system soon, so UDH seems like a no-brainer for any new bike.

The Seigla or new Astr seem like the current frames that check the most boxes to me. And the Seigla is such amazing value; I have one and so far have not found anything that makes me want to upgrade. Running 2.2 TKs at high-teens pressures is kind of a gamechanger.
