No problem! You can get a lot done when you’re sitting at home listening to work presentations!
This thread is a bit old, but I started having this issue, and for me, the issue was because of the heat on the patched tubes. I guess little by little, the patches started wearing out due to the heat from the wheel-on trainer. Here’s a picture of the inside of my trainer tire.
I used to use “junk tubes” for indoor riding, but this might change my mind. Posting this here in case anyone else stumbles across this thread like I did looking for a potential fix. – it might be your tube’s patches that are wearing down due to the heat
Hello Guys,
I have a similar issue with my Elite Qubo Power smart B+ trainer. I have already made contact with CS of Elite as well. We change e-mails on daily basis, but they have no clue what the cause of the issue. Therefore I am asking you to help me and avoid to ruin a lot of inner tube.
I bought one of the mentioned trainer a month ago, and since that time, I had like 8-10 punctures.
What I have tried already:
- Normal tyre for outside workouts and a TACX indoor trainer tyre. Same problem with both.
- The rim should be okay, because I used it outside during the past years and I had punctures like every 1000-1500 kms. Additionally, I have holes of the inner tube at different places each time, so rim should be fine.
- I use Continental inner tubes. Tried new ones and some already fixed as well. Same issue all the time.
- The resistance unit has two different positions. I tried both of it and had the same issue → flat tyre.
- The tyres are well inflated before every exercise.
What I found out that somehow the inner tube is getting destroyed gradually during each workouts (see below pictures). I mean that the side of the tube become thinner and thinner somehow until a hole is created somewhere at the inner tube. Looks like the tenison is high, but no clue what can be the reason.
If you have any idea what should I try to avoid further punctures, I would be glad. Thanks in advance.
I get flats on my kickr snap. I used a thornproof tube and that lasted a much longer time, but is a nightmare to fit on the rim. Now I use standard inner tunes that I cover in talcum powder. It makes a mess changing tubes, but it really seams to help them last longer.
I think the heat and friction from the trainer shortens the life of the tubes dramatically.
Finally experienced a flat on the trainer last night. I’m using a training tire and never thought to have a spare tube. (Training tire is thinner than Road tires, so can’t use those.) Failure seems to be a line on the “ground” side (outside) of the tube perpendicular to rolling direction of the wheel. (Sorry, no picture.). So not spokes. My guess is that I maybe introduced a small fold when installing. But if so, it held for months. Have not ridden outside since September.
Ordering some spares in case it is just the first sign of end-of-life. And will get some powder if it happens again.
