I think the cross section of people stealing extra hot dog toppings from Ikea and the ones paying 5 grand for a bike and spinning away like hamsters inside might be a bit different.
There’s also nothing being done to prevent multiple people from using the same account now. I could give my username and password to all my biking friends and they could download the TR app and sign in and sync their devices and then do whatever workouts they want at some percentage of my FTP, or change the FTP in my profile and then do any workout.
Adding multiple profiles doesn’t make it much easier at all to try to game the system and save a couple bucks.
The opposite is true.
The fact that is a huge pain in the butt to change TR to do a proper WO and track progress make not suitable for sharing. I could see more people sharing a Zwift account really…
Now, if you give people the ability to track different changes on different “bikes”, then it would become a no brainer for people to share the accounts… because, why not…
TR is not cheap and it becoming increasingly more expensive, specially to new people who are not on a legacy plan.
If TR add profiles, I can guarantee you, the account sharing will increase an stupid amount in a few months.
The same people who spend 5k on a bike will not hesitate in sharing their accounts… however ironic that may be,.
It’s actually super easy. You login, you choose a workout, you lower or raise the intensity to whatever percentage different your ftp is to the account owners…and you do the workout. You follow any of the plans and do a ramp test occasionally to measure improvement, and track your tss on intervals.icu or tp.
There’s always going to be grifters and those who try to cheat the system/company. Couldn’t someone who’s halfway decent with computers get a trial code and download the entire training catalogue as an outside training file for their Garmin/wahoo and do the workouts without ever paying? I just don’t think creating multiple ftp profiles would make it that much easier than it already is. If they’re that concerned about it they could make it so the ftp of all profiles must be within 5% of each other.
I’d also reiterate that as soon as AT is released in full, then it’s gonna be silly to share accounts since any training ride your buddy does is gonna mess with your tss and adaptations and the system as a whole. And your buddy is probably gonna want to see what AT suggests for him instead of following a basic plan.
Got on the TT bike to do a VO2max workout. Was practicing for the Prologue of the Tour de France (I’ve been clicking refresh on the TdF website every 15 minutes hoping that their registration page would be available soon).
Anyways, the workout went terribly. Adaptive Training listed my bike ebay, and under the description it just said, “Ain’t gonna be needing it.”
On the basis that it is affectively an offset based on position/geometry and is not a pseudo secondary account why would anybody pay extra? Why would TR ask for more - it is more about having appropriate training zones for each position. This would be a differentiator in the market, but that does not always mean increased costs.
I’ve responded to this before, setting out a clear use-case where two FTP profiles would be meaningful - in my case, a power meter with a KNOWN power discrepancy of 8% versus my indoor trainer.
Another example would be workouts done in the TT position - I’ve done ramp tests in TT position AND in road bike position, and it would be great to be able to say 'this workout will be done in TT position, so it should use FTP profile ‘B’"
Now that AT is coming in, having multiple users on the same account would make the adaptive nature of the program meaningless, so I wonder whether this can be re-considered for users running AT?
I’m definitely in the camp that would love this feature. I’m currently training indoors at work using a good ol’ spin bike and my power pedals, and using the Stages SB20 at home. There is a surprisingly large difference in the measurements from both of these systems. I’ve done all the calibrating, but its not solving the problem.
I am also going to echo the thoughts of others on here. Sharing your TR account might have been manageable before AT, but now with AT in place, sharing your account would totally screw up AT. I don’t think there is much of a risk for TR.
I think a lot of people have a big gap in ftp on their roadbike and there timetrail bike.
i would be handy that you can maintain 2 ftp’s one for the roadbike and one for the TT bike.
so when you select a workout you can select the bike. And the corresponding ftp is used.
Or am i the only one who likes a feature like this ?
I haven’t read this entire thread, but here it goes…
I recently minimized my outdoor/indoor FTP discrepancy by doing my latest ramp test with my power meter data (instead of the trainer’s power reading), and doing subsequent workouts (either indoor or out) with the same bike/power meter. Now my in/outdoor power readings are aligned.
Surely there is still a discrepancy between in/outdoor due to physiology and physics, but I can mitigate this easily by over-shooting a tad during outdoor workouts. (Also pads my ego.) For context, I’ve only been doing structured training for one year. This solution seems obvious to me, but I recognize my lack of experience as an athlete.
As for differing FTP’s in different riding positions or on different bikes… this doesn’t seem like a problem that needs to be solved. If you’re that in-tune with yourself to notice this, can’t you simply adjust your expectations on the fly? And, wouldn’t this method be even more beneficial than a “second FTP”, offering the knowledge of how different bikes/positions affect your capabilities?
I have not read every reply but here is another reason to allow multiple FTPs. . . .Different trainers. My norm is the Wahoo Kickr but when travelling for business I use Feedback Sports Omnium which needs about 25-30 watts lower. If I majorly lower the % then the TSS is so off.
If this does get implemented, please, please, 1,000 please add the ability to only have a single FTP. WKO5 has different outdoor and and indoor FTPs, and there is no automatic way to set them to be the same. Which is really annoying.
Just wanted to revive this discussion! Hadn’t seen it in a while. Now that tri season and cycling season are picking up and winter is closing down…
I thought a potential way to integrate this idea is on an athletes account, ask “multiple bikes?” If yes, user can pick TT, Road & MTB. A bike profile can be default. And then each “type” could have a default +/-% of the FTP training level.
On the workout description screen, a drop-down with “bike type” could be enabled if the user has 2 bikes and is using the non-default bike.
For example, with TT as the default, switching to road results in +3 or 5% next to the bike type on the profile for starters. Or road to TT, -5%. The athlete could adjust that percent up or down, but no more than 8 or 10 to help protect against user shared accounts.
Forgive the amateur pictures. Getting my oil changed and I’m using Paint
When I got my new recumbent my ftp on it was 90 watts less than my road bike. It took a full 6 months before my ftp on recumbent caught up and overtook my road bike FTP. Very different bikes can make a big difference especially if one riding position is fairly new to you.
