Agreed - this is the way to go
This would be really annoying. A one time toggle would be much more user friendly than having to switch it out every time.
Yes I agree a toggle switch would be better, but 2 tests may work as a faster interim measure if software is difficult
TLDR I donāt have an opinion about the live FTP but the on screen text should definitely be changed.
Yes! Agree with this way more than live ftp or not
You are the boss, make it happen!
Same, wish I hadnāt read this thread now.
There are definitely 2 camps here for sure - not quite as controversial as Brexit though:-) I have to say I favour live update of FTP Although now that someone has posted the 19:30 figure, Iām not so sure :-))))) However, given that every minute you complete at a certain W x 0.75 equals your FTP for the ramp test, I always start with a target to beat ⦠I guess the 19:30 saves the calculations beforehand ! On screen would suit me
The ramp test has made it SO much easier to retest but the motivation to push on until failure is much more difficult compared to the motivation to continue until the 20min or 8min test is over.
One way of possibly shifting the motivation would be to have a live ticker during the ramp test showing exactly what your FTP would be if you pulled out that second.
I canāt speak for anyone else but knowing how close I am to setting a new higher FTP would definately help me dig deeper compared to not having anything to shoot for.
What are other peoples thoughts?
Unnecessary. The break-even point in the Ramp Test is 19:30. If youāre sticking to the power target, your FTP will increase once you cross that point.
Agree.
I thought about something else - would it make sense if after surpassing the magic 19:30 the power bar increases more linear? not in big leaps like 8% of your current FTP (or whatever it is now).
After completing a few tests and nailing the last mangeable step to the very last second I always have the same feeling: like being smashed into my face when the next step in the test is by 8% bigger. Then I can stand for another 2 or 3 secons and I am done. Just wondering - if the resistant would increase in smaller chunks, maybe I could gain 2 or 3 watts more (if that makes any difference is another story).
PS I am new to the forum so greets to everyone and excuses for any funny wording I use (I am not a native English speaker)
2-3 watts is not going to change anything meaningful related to your training zones. What 2 watts does to your ego is a different question.
You get smacked in the face with the new step because thatās the point of the protocol. When you canāt do any more, youāve finished the test. If you were stronger, you could keep going.
I prefer not to have this. I like the TR style (which is reinforced by Chadās in-ride instructions) which is to focus on how you feel, what you are thinking and what your body is doing (or not doing) and not focus on the app except as a last resort (e.g. breaking down the interval into smaller intervals to get through it).
In other words, getting motivation from an on-screen number is not transferable to the race situation.
A Ramp test is about assessment. The protocol for this (and every other step test protocol I have seen) includes linear resistance steps at a fixed time interval. It is meant to capture some data that forms a reference point for training.
If they arbitrarily started changing the step interval or resistance at some point in the test, that would negatively impact the efficacy of the test. It would depend heavily on the specific FTP reference at the start of the test.
- FTP start too high, and you will get one set of results.
- FTP start too low, and you will get a different set of results.
There is no practical way to alter the steps in a way that wonāt lead to incorrect info for more riders than the fixed steps process. That suggestion for a change to smaller steps is a mistake, IMHO.
Make Live FTP optional ⦠easy to select on/off for user preference.
We now support Live FTP on the latest version of the desktop app . All you need to do is click the āStatsā drop-down and it will update as you progress along the test.
This feature will come to the mobile apps following the top-to-bottom redesign our Developers are working on.
My App is up to date (on Windows PC) ⦠but when I click the Stats drop-down, it simply gives me a row of stats ⦠but no live FTP?
INT POW ⦠INT HR ⦠INT CAD ⦠TSS ⦠TOTAL KJ ⦠NP ⦠AVG POW
Never mind. Just checked it again and I see it now says there is an update available. Thanks!
Bryce when will we see this for IOS devices?
Bryce is leaving TR.
According to Nate, they are working to kill bug and are getting closer.
