Device suggestions (Wahoo v Garmin etc)

I currently have a Wahoo Roam V1 that I like a lot. I bought a Garmin watch last year to replace an Apple Watch and I love it. But… the activities from my Wahoo don’t get accounted for in the Garmin metrics, and I would love them to.

Has anyone else found themselves in a similar predicament? Are my only options either keep the Wahoo and not have that data integrate or get a Garmin head unit?

THanks!

You can record activity both on Wahoo headunit and Garmin watch. Of course, you also need then set up your various systems synchronizations accordingly not to get duplicate activities.

For example, in my case:

  • Wahoo syncs to intervals.icu + Strava + TrainerRoad
  • Garmin syncs to Garmin Connect → intervals.icu

It is ok to have intervals.icu twice, it can detect duplicates, merge them and add daily health stats from Garmin (activity intensity, estimated VO2max, sleep quality, resting HR, etc)

Garmin (like so many other companies) would like to keep you in their walled garden. It can afford it as it makes “all” the devices (head units, watches, heart rate monitors, etc.) unlike most other manufacturers.

I liked syncing other activities (strength training, walking, etc) tracked by my watch to Strava. In your example, am I unable to do that? Thanks for the help!

That’s just how I like to set it up.

You could do it differently. For example, sync your watch to Garmin Connect, then let Strava and TrainerRoad pull from there, while your Wahoo head unit syncs only with Wahoo SYSTM. However you set it up, make sure your apps can handle duplicate activities if they’re pulling from both Garmin and Wahoo.

Yes, I bought a Roam V2 and was in the same boat. No matter how much I tried to convince myself I didn’t care, I caved and bought an Edge unit to get the full(er) performance metrics / health stats.

Since converting, I do feel like Garmin has more features - there’s a lot of ConnectIQ apps that I love that just simply don’t exist on other platforms.
