Deals on disc brake road frames?

I have enough parts sitting around to build up a disc braked road/endurace-road bike and run some 30-35mm tires. What I can’t find, is a reasonable deal on a frame.

Anyone have any suggestions? This is building up an economic bike, but still a decent enough one. Allez Sprint or Roubaix or Domane etc would be ideal, but they’re way above what I’d like to spend. Road or “Endurance Road” would be fine, it’ll just be for road rides on real world roads, and if possible some smooth gravel (I have a separate gravel bike and mountain bike).

Any suggestions? If I can’t do it economically, then I’ll just stick to my old Tarmac SL2 road bike.

Thanks

(Build kit is ultegra 6800/8000, and 105 7000 parts, with some DT470db rimmed wheels).

Time ADHX frameset. 38mm max tire. $1500.

ADHX is killer, but two cheaper options:

Would be helpful to quantify reasonable, in your mind.

I’ve built up $2500 framesets but also $500 ones from eBay that have been great too. Deals can be had if you avoid the big brands, that new cyclists will flock to since there’s more internet chatter about them.

This is to be a pretty cheap build. Ideally selling my old frame/fork/wheels/brakes/shifters etc, would make the outlay to upgrade only a few hundred dollars. This would be a good way to use up disc parts I have too.

Happy to get an older model, happy to get used. Just not excited by a used Allez Sprint frame only for $1200 when the complete bike was only $2k when new.

I’m thinking a frame that would be on a bike that retails (as a complete bike) in that low $2k to $3k mark, like Specialized Allez Sprint. I thought the rim brake domane alloy was under $400 on clearance. So I guess I’m hopeful that someone spots a similar deal, maybe up to $700/800, for a similarly nice disc frame.

That Time frame looks pretty amazing though, very tempting, but just too much money.

Thanks

You’re in the range of either used stuff or new Chinese carbon or steel frames.

Lynskey titanium road frame $695 (up to $985 for other models/sizes) on their ebay store depending on the size you need.

They have stopped including fender and rack mounts on their cheaper frames which is kind of a bummer.

I’d look into Surlys. A Midnight Special or Straggler may be what you’re looking for.

Not sure on their tire clearance but I have had Planet X bikes for years.

I agree, it would be nice to have that flexibility, but it might fit the OPs needs well.

Thanks, the OnOne looks to be the updated Carbonda 696 with the UDH. My gravel bike is a 696, but before they went UDH. That’s an amazing price for the OnOne one, cheaper than I paid a couple years ago for a custom painted 696 from Carbonda direct.

Those are great deals on the Open UP/WIDE. Plus, they fit wide/WIDE tires, which makes them very versatile.

I get more compliments on my open mould bike than I do my aero bike :joy:

I used one in “road-mode” with 32 mm GP5000 tires for a few years before buying a dedicated road bike. It worked great. And for just over $1000 that is a great price
