Cracked side plates on multiple chains

The “complete list of ingredients” includes

Water: Not great, but not so bad.

Surfactant: Could be a lot of things.

C9-11 alcohols Ethoxylated: Non-ionic surfactants, probably OK.

Sodium Bicarbonate: Not a problem

Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate: A chelating agent, I assume to extend the life of the cleaners in the presence of metal. Chelating agents aren’t supposed to cause embrittlement

Hydrochloric Acid: I see the problem, I’ll stop here!

There’s clearly witness marks on the plate. Is the frame bent? Check the frame for cracks.

I wouldn’t recommend air drying for an hour. Hair dryer for a few min is probably your best option. Even inside or dry conditions you can get moisture and lock it in with the wax, then your chain gets crunchy. I’ve had a number of people I helped convert to wax who air dried their chains for varying lengths of time and those who had issues all solved them by using the hairdryer and straight into the wax. One guy even let it dry overnight and it got worse. Once I explained why, he tried the hair dryer and never had another issue. He’s been waxing for three years now.

If it works for you, awesome. Just not what I would personally recommend.
