Covid Bivalent boosters

I’m not certain about that…planes have excellent air purification / filtration systems. The airport before the flight, however…

Yep gotta look at the whole trip. I’m on a 3 hour flight this weekend, still going to wear an N95 in the airports and on the plane. The X-Files motto of “Trust No One” works well when it comes to airborne disease…

Smart…I had to fly to Bangkok about a month ago from Chicago. It absolutely sucked having a N95 mask on for that long, but I got through the whole trip and did not catch anything. Couple people around me on the flights home were definitely in questionable health, too…

Yep, proper air circulation is only happening while in the air. Here they’ve just lifted the mask wearing mandate on planes. Lots of talk about risks. University researchers said boarding is the most critical stage. Hanging around in the terminal actually not so much. Contact time is usually very short and air volume is large. Even when lining up for the boarding or security check. All different once you’re on the plane.

Some slight malaise the next day, which resolved pretty quickly. I think I hear a voice in my head that might be Bill Gates. But other than that, no big deal.

I think it’s the Moderna bivalent, but other ones may now be approved for the booster. I’m in the over 50, under 65 category and am booked in at GP for Covid and flu jabs in 11 days time. Would have been able to book an earlier slot, but got some holidays first.

As to sore arms I very much think that’s down to the technique of the jabber. Nurses are often better than doctors at jabbing etc.

Which vaccine will you be offered?

You will be given a booster dose of a vaccine made by Pfizer or Moderna. You may be offered an updated combination version of these booster vaccines – the combination vaccines include a half-dose of the previous vaccine combined with a half-dose of a vaccine against the Omicron variant. For a very small number of people another vaccine product may be advised by your doctor.

Both the previous and the combination vaccines boost protection very well, although the combination vaccines produce slightly higher levels of antibody against some strains of Omicron.

For US residents they will be offering free at home COVID tests again for this winter. You can order four and have them on hand just in case.

After my 2022 booster, I proceeded to have the strongest cycling season I’ve had in a decade. I just got my 2023 booster and I hope for a repeat.

More seriously now. My arm is still sore, but otherwise I think I’m not experiencing as many side effects as last year. Does this comport with others’ experience?

Still seems to vary widely by individual….but I think overall, the reactions are getting milder.

I am now two months post-COVID so will scheduling my booster shortly.

I had COVID-19 vaccine + flu shot at the same time, I certainly felt it for about 24 hours afterwards. Last two times had no effect. Showed up on my Garmin Connect stress as medium stress (Oct 18th):

I got the latest COVID (Moderna), Flu & RSV shots a month ago all in the same arm so that arm was rather tender for 2-3 of days after which is to be expected. Felt a little off for couple of days but then back to normal.

The Garmin health metrics have been interesting to monitor with my booster #4 - received yesterday. At bedtime, my HR was 102 (very high for me) and HRV was 17 (low for me), which I attribute to the first onslaught of cytokines/chemokines working their magic.

Was in bed for about 10 hours but Garmin only logged 2 hours of sleep - temp went to 101.5F over night and stress score has been high since yesterday afternoon - in the 90s in the wee hours. Body battery at a whopping 5 today, and it feels like it.

Trending the stress that Garmin collects, it looks like things are trending down, so hopefully will be back to normal by tomorrow. Not sure if I’ll be doing my 6.2 VO2 Max workout scheduled for tomorrow though!

I had Covid and flu vaccine and arm was sore on side I got the Covid shot and had body aches 24 hours.

Worse though was my wife had recovered from a 2 week upper respiratory illness and was finally feeling good then she got Covid right after I got my vaccines. And I’ve been sick for a couple weeks and just getting closer to 100% healthy. I took 2 rapid Covid tests but both negative. My symptoms have been more flu like. So who knows. Fortunately my wife’s Covid bout was less troublesome for her than her upper respiratory issue.

got flu/covid and shingles shot

not sure which one or it was the combo, but I was pretty miserable for 2 days. I was told the shingles shot is rough, I also haven’t done well with previous covid boosters, but had headaches, body aches, and some fevers.

For the sake of accuracy, I’ll just say that these are no longer being called “boosters” … they are new vaccines. I think everyone understands the discussion, it just thought I’d note that.

With that being said, my whole family just received the updated vaccine. Personally, I took the flu shot and the Covid vaccine in the same arm on the same day.

All of our side effects were consistent with any/all previous implications … I had a sore arm with no other issues, my wife felt pretty crappy for 24 hours but taking a advil every 4-5 hours mitigated any side effects within 30 minutes. I never stopped training nor did I feel impacted in the least.

Good luck🤘

Both doses of the shingles vaccine knocked me on my ass way worse than any of my COVID shots….you are braver than I am getting them together!!

I got the latest COVID vaccine and the flu shot Monday evening. I felt a little run down Tuesday but overall had few side effects other than an extremely sore covid shot arm (while my flu shot arm felt fine). My wife, on the other hand, had to come home sick from work Tuesday and spent most of the day in bed. For both of us, this matched our reaction to the previous shots.

Got the new novavax shot last week. Was tired several hours later, but felt fine, other than arm soreness, the next day. Big contrast to my previous 3 boosters, all Pfizer, where I felt like garbage (w horrible Hrv and rhr)

Had my booster and flu shot late this AM….hopped on the bike after for an easy 2 hour ride just to keep moving without stressing the body too much.

Felt fine all day, made dinner, etc. starting to feel a little achy ~10 hours later. Popped some Tylenol and heading to bed. Hopefully feel OK in the AM
