Perfect. Keep us updated! I’m on the fence of ordering a 52/36 ultegra myself, but I prefer to be sure it’s stiff enough before I’m doing max effort sprints
They do feel stiffer and the front shifting is better than before, but I think the aliexpress stone chainrings shift better than the alugear ones
When I sprint my max power peaks just above 1400W, so I’m a just little concerned that it may not be stiff enough. Maybe I should just give it a shot and hope for the best.
I really, really like how these chainrings look.
Sadly I’m just finding this thread now. I’m on Ultegra di2 12 speed. I got my Alugear 54-40 in April 2024. Chain slipped in a 35 mph crit sprint at the end of May. Didn’t crash, but whacked my knee pretty good on the top tube. The chain slipped right at the beginning of the power stroke before you really get up to high rpm. Lucky not to go down. I put it off to improper front derailleur adjustment. I didn’t end up racing in anything that came to a sprint after that last year, but it happened last weekend in the first race of the 2025. Same exact situation. Took it to my local Shimano expert and he made some fine adjustments. I tested it out yesterday in training with the same results. I was able to make it happen while in the saddle, so much safer. I’ll be switching to Dura Ace and looking for a refund from Alugear.
Have you got the updated chainrings? If it is still happening with the new design they need to do a full recall.
I’m not sure if mine are updated since I don’t have anything to compare them to. The ones I have look like the image further up in this thread that are apparently the redesign. Some additional searching found a few other threads on different forums describing the same issue–sadly with some hospital trips. I don’t know how recalls work for companies outside of the US. Sounds like it would certainly be the right thing to do. I emailed them to request a refund.
