I just picked up a Trek Checkpoint SL7 new for a great deal. Maybe not the fastest but very comfortable— will look to swap out handle bar. Drops seems pretty deep to me.

Keep in mind, this is the AR version that they’ve offered on their Custom Road builds for a while, and start at a 38cm width. The SES Aero version UAE is running is months off still.

And maybe a 1x wide for gravel? And total power please, versus the new Force and Rival.

The Force and Rival power meters use spindle-based measurement, which is single-sided power doubled.

He is hoping for real, total power as SRAM does with their Quarq power meters that are spider-based measurement, actual capturing power from each & both legs. This is Total Power.

The one you shared is the spider-based design I mentioned. It is Total power and a great PM.

See below for the spindle-based ones that I think WW was alluding to:

The PM is in the crank spindle and only measures power from the left leg, not both. Those are the ‘budget’ option or upgrade they added to the main Quarq line of spider PM’s a couple of years ago.

The confusing part is that SRAM / Quarq offer a range of power meters at different price points, so you have to look a bit to make sure which is being discussed.

New Force D2 (gen2 AXS) came to market with a 1x and left power (spindle). Chainrings are direct mount and not compatible with previous Force power upgrade which use a different chaining (4 bolt 107bcd). Very low inventory of the 107bcd chainings, so for my gravel bike I picked up the new Force 1x on sale, plus direct mount 46T chainring.

Also, a couple years ago I had Force 2x and added the ~$450 power meter. When I had frame issues and had to return the bike, the 8 crank-to-PM bolts had corroded in a little over 3 months and nearly impossible to remove. WTF.

I think Quarqs measure total power but estimate how much is coming from each leg based on where in the pedal stroke the power is coming. I.e. When the left leg is at 10 o clock it’s going to assume that most/all of the power at that point is coming from the left leg, but if you’re better than the average rider at unweighting or pulling up with your right foot then that assumption (and your reported L:R balance) will be a little off. Since it doesn’t actually have a strain gauge on the left and right cranks so knows how much total force is being applied to the spider but can’t tell how much of that force is coming from the left leg pushing down and how much from the right leg pulling up.

Correct, that’s why we said it’s "Total Power ", not “Dual-Sided”. Any data for L/R is estimated here like it is for other similar power meters (if they even bother to estimate it).

True Dual-Sided is either crank arm or pedal when they have separated strain gauges and associated force measurement for each side.

Bump. Have any of you Seigla (especially Seigla Rigid) guys tried using it for double duty with e.g. a second wheelset and road tires? If so, how was it?

@psmith I used my Seigla (with the Grit fork) on the road for two weeks with 45mm Pirelli Centurato Gravel H tires and it was fine for all of my outdoor training rides. I was on business travel for a training course and could only bring one bike, but really wanted to hit a rail trail during the weekend, so brought my Seigla. Worked very well, so I can only imagine that the rigid with road wheels/tires will be fine.

Just a note, this PM works with Force D2 cranks with no issues. I have it set it up with them. I did not want to get single sided, since my l/r balance is not 50/50, so was glad to learn that this one suits new Force as well.

Yup, I can echo that I did the same for my gravel bike build for this upcoming year: Force D2 cranks with the older PM spider. Seems like the Rival/Force crank arm meter is single sided only and had some mixed reviews.

Of course, both Assioma and Look had to come out with new pedals in the past few weeks.
