For those who like the Enve Melee, but can’t swing the racy geometry, hold tight… Enve has had a third production frame rumored for a while, and the buzz was another gravel bike… But it turns out its what most would call an “endurance road” bike. With clearance for 40mm tires, and a more upright geometry, it’ll be a really nice bike for many.
interesting, bridging the gap between he Melee and Mog. Talking about enve, does anyone know for sure if ENVE is lowering the msrp for the melee and mog to $4450 like rumors and google are saying? Looks like it would follow the Foundation wheels price drop that happened not long ago.
Let me know when the Melee Foundation is out.
I’ll take a 100-200g heavier frame for half the money.
$4450 according to google for both MOG and Melee, the price was published at ENVE website not long ago, this + a potential dealer discount can bring the frameset down to the mid-high $3Ks that seems like a decent deal… but will have to see if that’s gonna end up happening or not
I also can’t help but wonder if that lower price of $4450 is just for a standard frameset(meaning frame and fork) versus the “Module” they introduced both with. I’ve seen countless for sale ads from shops on various size “Modules” stating that they weren’t willing to swap bar size or stem length, and I bet Enve realized this was a bigger lift to accomplish when not selling only consumer direct.

it’s a bummer ENVE allow their dealers to force customers buying the standard, when I got my MOG I had no issues getting the stem/bar/seatpost I asked for. Some had to be shipped from ENVE to the shop before coming to me, and I got that with a 25% discount
while it’s possible they would remove the parts of the “module” they were very strong with regards to the integration wanting you to us their stem/bars, I think stem would be more important than bars in this case, so kinda weird that they would do that but can’t say for sure of course. the price drop would be a little over what they did with the foundation wheels.
guess we are gonna have to wait and see…
Unless the price was crazy low, if I went into a shop to buy a Melee and they wouldn’t let me pick the stem/bar size, I’d say, thank you but I’ll give my business to a different shop.
I agree… I’m not condoning it or saying I’d partake, I’m just stating what I’ve seen. It’s probably not super uncommon. Imagine you’re a small shop, and pick up three frame sets upon their release, and you have one size 56 still hanging on wall with the cockpit that came on it. I can’t imagine that Enve will make it super easy to swap that “showroom condition” setup for a new one nine months after you bought it from them. And even if they’re willing to, which I’d hope they are, I bet you’re paying for the return shipping of the less than new setup back to them and probably with some re-stocking fee. If you’re said shop, you’re probably already making little profit on that likely marked down frame(certainly now with the reduced pricing), so it might be more hassle than you’re willing to accommodate.
Here’s an example…

What’s your take on it? Looks like this will eat a lot of both the Melee and MOG market, I’m not sure what to think, clearly a lot taller than both the MOG and Melee for a more relaxed riding position, other than that geo numbers are really, really close.
Local shop guys test rode one a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. One of them is planning on ordering one…said it was the best bike he had ever ridden. (Note - he is more of a casual cyclist vs. performance oriented, but has good bike knowledge).
Its looks sweet and a great bike for a lot of people. But how is anyone justifying spending $5.5K for a frame? I just don’t think its worth 2x more than any other big brand name carbon bike, like a Cervelo Soloist for example, but maybe I am wrong…
It’s less when you subtract the overpriced stem, bars, and seatpost you would have had to buy anyway.
I’m not sure about their price strategy, Melee and MOG are very easy to find deals on, like 25% deals on framesets, I paid 4125 on my MOG, and could have done the same with a Melee. But Enve wants to price things at boutique prices, that’s what they are. Considering the discounts and the choice of stem / handlebar while doesn’t make it a cheap bike also doesn’t look that bad, Unfortunately you are stuck with Enve bar/stem since they use their own integrated setup, but of course you can still do a lot better with a non sworks, giant, or Cervelo like you said that can also be found easily under retail.
The only thing that would keep me from getting the Soloist over this is the tire clearance. It would be nice to throw on some 35-37 slicks and ride all year and most surfaces (for me at least). And throw on fenders if needed. The Soloist is a killer price though. Add in the downtube storage which appears to be all the rage these days. The price (of the Fray) is still a tad too much in my opinion but I’m sure it’ll sell well. It’s popped up in my consideration for my next bike. Along with the Time ADHX (good bit cheaper and it’s a Time), Enve Melee (for the right price), or the new BMC Roadmachine. I really just want some more tire clearance on an otherwise fast road bike.
Buy what excites you.
I still look at my Ultimate from 2016 and think… yeah let’s ride.
Anyone got an enve fray? Any feedback?
It just came out like a week ago. I’m interested too though!
