Does anyone know how to fix the following issue with the Action Button, where instead of starting the selected workout, it is “marking a segment”?
Up until yesterday / this morning, once I’d selected a workout, when I hit the Action Button the workout would start (I have precision start enabled). But now hitting the Action Button marks a segment. I cannot find any setting I changed, nor a way to revert back to having the Action Button start the selected workout.
Note: Cross-Posted on @dcrainmaker’s review of the Apple Watch Ultra
I see some criticisms here I don’t understand. First, it has three days of battery life which should be enough for virtually any event.
Second, it is not limited to built-in cycling features. It can run the Cyclemeter app which is extraordinarily good. I think it can even fully record a ride, including power, without having your phone along.
Three days is in standby mode for the majority of it.
Realistically, you’re looking at about 17hrs of time right now in GPS+HR mode with proper GPS/HR recording. If you step down into the newer battery saver mode, where it reduces GPS/HR readings, then that data is entirely useless (only records once every 2 minutes). I did a post on it back in Nov: Apple Releases New Secondary Lower-Power Apple Watch Ultra Workout Mode | DC Rainmaker
Still, if you’re not going more than 17hrs it’s fine (as I showed in a non-stop trail run across a mountain range). As for the app landscape for cycling/triathlon, it’s still kinda messy, but apps are getting better here slowly, with a number of apps targeting stronger options for spring that look promising in my testing.
The bigger issue is frankly just sport usability with any sort of gloves. It’s mostly hopeless.
I have the exact same settings as you show above (I’ve checked both on my watch and my iPhone). That’s what is so weird. I didn’t change anything, but now when I’ve selected a workout and then hit the action button I get “Mark Segment”
I don’t use mine for any long rides but I do tend to record at least a one hour activity daily. Since I got my Ultra I’ve consistently been getting two and a half days of battery out of it. That’s including three hours of activity tracking. I love the Ultra, but definitely won’t be ditching my Wahoo.
FWIW - I got the orange band BUT I also had a bunch of other bands on order through Amazon, some in packs of three. I used the “rubbery” bands for working out, the stretchy one’s for sleeping, and mostly the orange one for out and about.
Orange alpine loop. A bit over engineered for daily use but it’s very adjustable and never going to fall off. I will probably get an ocean loop as it’s easier to dry after a workout.
