I’m in the market for a new phone and seriously considering a folding phone such as the Samsung Z Fold 6 or the Pizel 9 Pro Fold.
Has anyone here ever used one of these types of phone to run either TR or Zwift? I’m guessing the large screen is fantastic but might also be ackward that it won’t find in a standard phone mount on my stem like I currently run.
I had a Lenovo laptop that folded into a tablet like these phones do. Total POS and would never buy again. This quirky tech usually is buggy. I’d recommend avoiding
I’ve had my fold z3 for 3 years. The only big issues I have had is the inner screen protector coming lose which samsung replaced for free and one screen connector coming lose after I jumped on the open big screen (but easy to pop back in by rubbing the screen)
I’ve been wondering about in-pocket moisture ingress issues with these phones. Now that most phones are at least water resistant, I feel like most of us have picked up the bad habit of carrying our phones unbagged in our jersey pockets. I assume with a folding phone, you’d need some sort of bag or moisture protection around the phone?
I’m on my third fold phone (1, 2, and 5). I carry the phone in my center pocket with a Silca cycling wallet, along with ID, a credit card, and a DynaPlug. I don’t have a case on the phone otherwise and haven’t any issues with water or dirt.
Apple is supposed to be working on a folding iPhone. shrug
Ifixit has info on problems with foldables, and here’s an article about them too. It would seem they are prone to issues IRL that designers might not have thought of. I’ve heard dirt/dust could be the biggest issue with them.
For people with them, has that been an issue for you? Someone suggested to keep some form of coverage on them JIC. I imagine screen repairs are big bucks.
