The price of something as good as a used Tacx Neo makes it a bit of a no brainer really. In fact I nearly succumbed this time, and even got as far as bidding for one on Fleabay, but you know a working Halcyon is still a pretty capable piece of kit. So the plan at the moment is to screw a little more value out of it, with a view to an upgrade to a Tacx Neo 1 or 2 in three years time when the last linear actuator from my stash dies. Hopefully by then the fashionistas will be giving their Neos away!
The Halcyon was a great trainer. Its a shame 4iiii didnt do the original justice. I think the original has a lot of potential…
I wish they could use the technology to create an wheel-off trainer that is silent and react as quick as the halcyon did… the potential is there. its up to them to make it work
Disappointingly it was the ‘new’ drive side actuator that bit the dust this time, so that one managed just 1200 miles. Replaced from my Canadian sourced stash, leaving just one spare now. ![]()
A couple of weeks ago the magnetic speed sensor seemed to be a bit intermittent, during what turned out to be the final ride, I had to get off and adjust it even closer to the magnet. Next ride no amount of fiddling with the magnet or sensor would induce it to wake up. Taking the fully charged battery out and putting it back again caused lights to flash, but didn’t wake it for long enough to do more than confirm that the firmware was still OK. I can hear the reed switch(?) clicking as the magnet passes. Life seems too short to investigate further so I have bought a used Tacx Neo and am getting on well with it so far.
If anyone wants the linear actuators (1 new + 2 used) or anything else off my Halcyon (I’m in the UK) then PM me.
