All roads lead to Pioneer -3

Starting some time in late May or in June, the TrainerRoad algorithm seems to have concluded that Pioneer -3 is the best 1-hour endurance workout for me.

I don’t think this is a bug, per se, but it’s definitely strange. At least I generally know how I’ll be passing my Thursday workouts. Is anything similar happening to any of you?

Pioneer -3 is technically the “hardest” or highest-level 60-minute endurance workout that doesn’t have sprints included, which is likely why you’re seeing it so often. The only way to get a higher-level workout is to increase the duration.

Other athletes have had the same issue with the workout James, which is the highest-level, non-sprinting endurance workout that’s 90 minutes long. Again, to find a more progressive workout than James in those situations, you need to be open to longer workouts.

Let me know if this makes sense!

Ah, interesting! Thanks! I’m a little surprised I don’t get funneled to Black, but despite its higher PL, I would be lying if even I didn’t admit that I think it’s easier than Pioneer -3.

Black is slightly easier than Pioneer-3. It’s also a level 3.5 workout compared to a 3.6.

I also get Pioneer-3 all the time. Not a problem per se, but as indicated by this post it’d be cool if there were some variety available. Perhaps the TR team could make a few 1h endurance workouts of similar difficulty that would be interspersed with Pioneer-3, just for variety’s sake…

Wait, why do we have different PLs for Black?

The algorithm seems to like to give me Guyat multiple times.

Signs suggest I may have been falling into that one, too, but my sweet spot workout becomes VO2 max this week.

I’m seeing the same as you - 4.3, versus 3.6 that @eddie is seeing.

Same here for Black: 4.3

But also different to @eddie’s screen shot, Beech is 4.1 and Pioneer -3 is 3.8, not 3.6

Maybe somebody forgot they had the new PL-generator turned on.

I see the same as you for all 3

Me too, that is the only endurance ride TN seems to give me. Not that it matters as I train outside so I get variability trying to hold the target on the undulating lanes, but I think it would drive me a bit bonkers if I was training inside.

Whoops!

Yeah, I had my test account open, which I sometimes use to test random things out, hunt for and reproduce bugs, etc. I’ve almost always got something different going on over there..

What you’re seeing is correct @megsambit @KBryan416 @Flashpoint51 @Pbase.

I’m seeing Black at 4.3, Beech at 4.1, and Pioneer -3 at 3.8 on my production account.

Sorry for the confusion! :man_facepalming:

Hey all. Just chiming in here to say this is something we are working on improving right now. The workouts you are seeing now are chosen by our AI to be matched to your fitness, but variety is a big factor in staying motivated, so we’re working to eliminate duplicate workouts like this.

Yeah, me too with Pioneer -3. But also a lot of Carson in the Climbing TrainNow.

Will ya look at what popped up on my calendar today?

Just sub in Beech or Cumberland -3, possibly Black but be aware there are bits of Black at 80%

Or if a extra 15 minutes can be found there is Baxter -1 slightly easier, or Carter a touch harder both 75 minutes

Interesting. James and I became very good friends this last year training for LT100  I think it was planned weekly for me.
