Aero ~(50|55) wheels under 1300g?

TL/DR - We built a set of 60mm depth wheels that are estimated to be 1290g (+/- 20g)

I wanted to resurrect this thread as oldandfast inspired me with this thread for my new bike build I am doing.

I set out to build what I found to be a modern and wise wheel choice for road bikes. In doing this I have been working with Nextie over the last few months to create the wheelset I saw/found fit to achieve this.

What did we build?

We built a set of 60mm depth wheels that are estimated to be 1290g (+/- 20g).

The wheels are featuring all of the current tricks;

  1. Tubless ready rim bed (no holes)
  2. Carbon bladed spokes (4.5mm width)
  3. 20-spoke straight pull, this is achieved with a Nextie hub based on DT design
  4. Hooked Rims
  5. Modern aero rims (the shape may be familiar with a lot of people)
  6. UPDATE 1/23/25- Competitive MSRP of $1305 plus shipping.

Here is the rim profile

Here are the spokes

To achieve this feat - the rims must be UD and Free coating (no paint, natural carbon) and they can quality control the rim to an estimated 450g each and still keep quality control proper for testing.

These wheels are on order, I should have them in about 4-weeks and will gladly share with the group but I was just so excited about the project. I plan to pair them with 30mm tires.
