Adjusting VO2 Max Sessions for lack of sleep

I have two young kids and occasionally they interrupt sleep so I don’t always get the optimal 7 hours plus or have a very broken nights sleep. I’ve heard that if you don’t sleep well you should amend your session for the next day appropriately especially if it’s something intense like VO2 max efforts.
Is this true or something that others have done in the past and if so how should I adjust the sessions?
