Adaptive Training - Unuseable

My expectation is unless TR adds additional info that a user would add to a manually selected workout - this would need to be something that gets to the point of adding the workout to your calendar - I don’t see that AT or any AIML solution could modify the workout with any degree of usefulness.

Without know the intent of a workout, how could AT modify it?

It’s a slippery-slope to AT deleting your A-race from the calendar because it decides you’re not ready :rofl:

I see I misunderstood you - I thought you were saying AT would never be able to adapt after doing a manually replaced workout.

I suspect I missed the context of your statement, which got on this unnecessary side track debate. My apologies.

It is certainly possible to try and predict why a change - alternate workout or otherwise - but a simple survey is easiest to do. I’m not sure there is even much of a benefit. The system naturally adapts based on a recent body of work (within TR workout catalog for now).

I’m still hoping to get into the buggy beta so I complain as well.

I have been in since Tuesday. It is neat. I like seeing feedback after a ride with progressions. So far none of the rides have been that hard but I just started a new plan. It suggested low volume so that is what I have gone with. I added a zone 2 endurance ride with train now today.
Not thrilled with low volume but is appropriate. I ride commute about 8 km each way to work and then do about 22000 steps 5 days a week walking for around 3-5 hours a day.
This coming week looks a little harder so we will see. I hope you get in soon!

First. It does work with plans. Its making adaptations to mine just fine.
Second. It makes adaptations as you train outside of your current progression. The starting progression is set low. As you successfully complete workouts IF necessary it will make further workouts harder. If you struggle with workouts it will make them easier.

Put simply, if you are not seeing adaptations, you/your plan doesn’t require them.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but I’ve had the exact opposite experience. I’m on the low volume TT plan and it has made several adjustments that have been quite helpful. I’m a seasonal allergy sufferer and I’m just coming through prime time for allergies. Additionally, I recently took on a promotion at work and was sporadic with my training for a couple weeks trying to get caught up on the job. The consequence of both of these situations caused me to struggle when I tried to resume the plan. AT made several corrective suggestions which I followed and which allowed me to get back on track. In the past allergy season left me struggling to finish workouts and feeling defeated. But not this year. I’m a believer and think AT is a terrific upgrade!

Sorry to hear your transitioning experience wasn’t smooth.

I use a PM and HR-sensor via a smartwatch on a dumb-trainer with the back wheel on or use outside.

I was kind of in the same boat as you, for a half-distance plan, mid-volume. With an added run and swim workout per week. (So 5 runs and 4 swims per week) Progressing through a build, almost going into the specialty phase. I promise you I had switched a lot of the workouts because I didn’t like how the plan builder had setup some of the workouts.
I had re-arranged it that the cycling workouts looked like this.
Tuesdays were VO2 max, Wednesdays were endurance, Thursdays where threshold or tempo, and Sunday was the long tempo or long endurance ride. The other workouts were sprinkled in between.
(I have to say I use different apps for the other disciplines as I find those better suited for my needs, Stryd for running and MySwimPro for the swim, I check off the workouts as completed in the TR calender and adjust the time duration and TSS when available)

Past the halfway point of the “build”-phase I get the option to switch to the open beta. It also had asked for any scheduled holidays or time of.
At first I hadn’t noticed many changes, if any. Some long workouts became shorter and their progression-level reduced a bit. The logic of the order of the workouts didn’t change.
Most changes came when I deleted the B-race I had planned 4 weeks before my A-race, 2 weeks before the B-race. (Mid September is my A-race, B-race was supposed to happen last weekend but 2 weeks ago I decided not to do it because I didn’t feel prepared enough).
It changed the durations and intensities of some of the swim and run workouts and same for the bike workouts. It also made me do a ramp-test. It renamed the specialty block to build and the week of race-day got renamed to specialty-week (It basically looks like a taper week).
Based of that I got a couple of suggestions.
I had a good week last week, I felt strong so I did a couple of breakthrough - level workouts. I got adaptations for the run and swim workouts. I also manually added some long endurance workouts on Sunday and switched the Sunday suggested workouts to Saturday.

I haven’t noticed AT getting buggy. I am getting easier recommendations but in 2 weeks taper starts so I want to load up a little more before that. I don’t consider that buggy, I think it’s AT recognizing I pushed it a little and doesn’t want me to overtrain based of previous data.

I wasn’t expecting changes in my plan right away. I was expecting to see some adaptation as I progress through the workouts and I have seen them.

Maybe have another go at it. Set up your plans, without clinging on what the phase named, rather look at the style of workouts and are they benefitting the end goal. When you feel stronger or feel good, maybe have a go at one the alternates with a higher progression level and see what happens after?
